It was only last month when Pat Waak was broadcasting her total disdain for running for another term as Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party but now, rumor has it she has announced interest in running in 2011.
As a loud and proud Progressive of this Party let me say, please don't run. We are so tired of being ignored and overlooked. Of being passed over for OFA sycophants who do nothing but tell us to compromise all of our beliefs away for the betterment of the infallible President and to forget about our State and local elected officials because they don't understand that real change doesn't come from officials in Washington, it happens right here on our City Councils, School Boards, our State Legislature and our County Commissioner.
We are the people who canvass every year for our local elected officials, and believe in true grassroots movements where the key to winning elections is by going door to door and talking to our neighbors. When the best way to spend a Tuesday night is at our House District meetings, or where we know that the term "phone banking" is a 4 letter word, but we still do it.
We want a leader, not a manager. I understand that at all levels we all work hard, but it is much easier to sit in an air conditioned room at the downtown office and bark orders at candidates and staff then to actually go out there in the field and help them. A leader helps at every level, and proves by example that none of us are too good for any job we require to win an election. We have become a party of social climbers and people who believe in "grass tops." That term means about as much as "trickle down" means, absolutely nothing.
You have ignored us, and nothing you say now will make me believe you will change in the future.
What happened to Pat Waak of 2006? The Mike Miles Pat Waak who believed in GrassRoots?

This election cycle does not look very good for Democrats. There are structural problems of having won seats in the House that we might not have taken if we had not had the massive outpouring of support for President Obama's campaign. There is the issue of the economy where voters tend to punish the party in power, regardless of if it was they who drove the economy into trouble or not. There is the mid-term issue where the party that holds the White House historically loses seats. All these combined with a base that is unhappy (with some good reason) with the way that a historic majority has compromised so many of their priorities and values.
Whether it is your intent to support Democrats or not, the time to get involved in the process is now. If you just can't stomach your particular Democratic candidate, then find a way to work for the ones that you can. Nothing is more important than protecting the liberal and progressive members of Congress, if the long term goal is to move the nation to the left politically.

Given that our Democratic State Convention is happening this week and that our race for the nomination for US Senator is hotly contested by our former Democratic long time Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff and the appointed Senator Michael Bennet,
You all should read this diary by Wade Norris
He appears to have proof that someone, at Huffington Post perhaps, deleted Michael Bennet's name from a list of Senators who Voted Against Breaking Up the Mega Banks, on the same day that Bennet sent our a major fund raising letter on teh topic of reforming Washington DC.
This should be interesting. Yes?

There is a lot of discontent on the progressive side of the political spectrum with the performance of the Democratic majority in the 111th Congress. While there have been a few major pieces of legislation completed (the fact there have not been more is nearly completely the fault of the Republicans in the Senate) the final product has often been far less than progressives or liberals would have liked.

The Colorado 2010 caucus was above average attendance last night. In 2008 over 92,000 people attended compared to 2006 with just over 8,000. As of press time, there is close to 22,000 or 2.7 times the 2006 levels.
The constellation of GOP numbers [.pdf] makes things interesting. Cleve Tidwell is out (not so interesting, but maybe now we can have some closure). Tea Partyboy Ken Buck and "old guard Jane" Norton are in a dead heat with over a third of the vote each. Former State Senator Tom Wiens doesn't have to petition onto the ballot with 16%.
