The Aurora Republican, who has served in the Army and the Marines, marched into Elbert County Saturday (which isn't even in his new district), opened his mouth to discuss defense spending, and promptly stuck a combat boot in it:
"I don't know whether Barack Obama was born in the United States of America. I don't know that. But I do know this, that in his heart, he's not an American. He's just not an American."
How many of you would advise Mike Coffman that the best way to introduce himself in a new, more competitive district is via stories on the top-rated TV station and in the state's largest newspaper in which he essentially puts on the tri-cornered hat and shows the world his "birther" card?
And then offering an apology that contains more arrogance than remorse?
Thanks for the easy question, Curtis. Coffman's arrogance came through quite clearly once again. And Republicans' reliance on smear and innuendo vs. policies and solutions should tell you one other thing that is also quite clear: both sides don't do it.
As through all of this the Birthers, the Republican Congressmen and Senators, and the major media figures that continually repeat the lies are enabled by a Democratic establishment that thinks it will go away by magic.
Then when their representatives get in public and are confronted with reality, they slink back into the pretend world where a President, voted into office by a large margin of American Citizens, who is successfully performing his official duties, is some furrin', alien, Muslim Socialist who hate America.
"I don't know whether Barack Obama was born in the United States of America. I don't know that. But I do know this, that in his heart, he's not an American. He's just not an American."
- Republican Mike Coffman - Colorado
They should all be ashamed: Boyles, Coffman, Pate, the Management of 850KOA, and the Management of Clear Channel.
All the closet racists with a public-supplied microphone who are playing to the fears of voters and the short attention spans of their listeners should be fired by their respective bosses for abuse of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Rush, exercising his First Amendment rights jaw on Clear Channel-provided, Public-Owned, Amplitude Modulated airwaves at 850KOA in Denver, recently went on a sexist jihad against Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke.
The DailyKos put together a video of Rush's 53 consecutive attacks on Ms. Fluke, all of which surely ran on our beloved 850KOA. They are contractually obligated. Rush did not like the compilation, because he makes money from every lie, every attack, and every abuse the First Amendment grants and 850KOA advertisers fund. So Rush Limbaugh had his trial lawyer force YouTube to pull Markos' video compilation of the anti-Fluke tirade.
You really have to watch it to understand the depth of the vitriol and the fact that Our Neighbors at 850KOA broadcast this stuff daily:
I don't listen to this crap, but I imagine there are still some local merchants paying money for Rush to have his say about women, birth control and other issues in Denver. Like Rush, they probably want you to forget what he said just a few months ago. But he said it, we won't forget, and this compilation of his attacks on Sandra Fluke in particular, and women in general, will never go away.....no matter which lawyer or radio station wishes it were so.
Premiere Networks is circulating a list of 98 advertisers who want to avoid "environments likely to stir negative sentiments."
"To all Traffic Managers: The information below applies to your Premiere Radio Networks commercial inventory...They've specifically asked that you schedule their commercials in dayparts or programs free of content that you know are deemed to be offensive or controversial (for example, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity).'
You'll notice Randi Rhodes is not on the list, because she actually criticizes both parties and does not lie. You'll also notice Premier states the program directors already know those in question are offensive - interesting. Tom Leykis, out of L.A., used to be really good - until the right-wing money became too hard to resist. Mike Rosen never went as far as his KOA neighbor Rush. And though he still lies regularly, he may be the prime beneficiary of Rush's ruin.
UPDATE: You really have to watch the guy to get the full impact of Rush's obsession with sex, his complete misunderstanding of women's health, his purposeful misrepresentation of the issue. This is not "satire":
(h/t Kos)
It turns out Rush Limbaugh's non-apology apology was preceded by 53 insults from Rush Limbaugh over 3 days. Here's a detailed time line from Media Matters. I am almost certain all of those insults were carried over the public owned airwaves used by 850KOA, which pays the minimal fees required by the FCC for that highly-profitable use.
I can't imagine all the local sponsors of 850KOA and Rush support his 53 insults and one tepid apology. Maybe we'll find out when Rush hits the air today at noon... ;-)
UPDATE:Rush will be lying about Sandra Fluke on today's program, stating she wasn't allowed to testify because Issa's congressional committee didn't have time to vet her.
Republicans never have a failure they can't rationalize or try to blame on someone else. That's why they call(ed) themselves the party of "personal responsibility", eh? And a two-bit partisan like Michael "Heckuvajob" Brownie, who was a key player in one of the saddest failures of our government and leaders (right after that 9/11 thing) would never miss a chance to try to make people forget his miserable tenure at FEMA and try to drag President Obama down to the Bush League:
[Former FEMA Director Michael] Brown evidently thinks he has the moral authority to condemn Obama's handling of the tornado disaster. In an interview with Fox New's Neil Cavuto, Brownie, you're doing a heckuva job" Brown blasted Obama for "playing ping-pong" while people died and "being more concerned with toasting the Queen" than taking care of tornado victims:
BROWN: In this situation, they're almost tone-deaf. I mean, you stop and think about it, your press office should be recognizing that the visuals that Americans are seeing is of this devastation. Don't put a visual of the president up playing ping-pong. It's awful.
Talk about tone deaf. And talk about visuals, here's one of Bush as New Orleans was being inundated. But the immediate response was the lesser evil in Bush's reaction to Katrina. When you listen to his voice in the Brownie clip you can hear the fear and pleading in Bush's voice. His half-assed concern and lack of interest in the mechanics of government and executive powers are what led to a greater disaster in NOLA than had to be. No amount of Brown-washing can change that.
Just as the 9/11 attacks might have been prevented with the proper focus of the incoming government, Katrina's damage could have been lessened by a president who gave a shit and a FEMA Administrator who had the skills to handle the job. We had neither during Katrina or 9/11.
Michael Brown is doing his best to rewrite history and take Obama down a notch to the level of failed bureaucrat, and it's typical Republican attack-mode BS. We'll probably have to keep reminding everyone, until he kicks the bucket or gets off our airwaves, of how bad Brownie screwed up as FEMA Director and how the failures of the Bush administration are being met with mostly successes from President Obama.
I know others will, I can as well, do a heckuva job highlighting the massive failures that occurred during the Bush Administration. The usual suspects - with guilty consciences and easy access to a mic, are now trying to hide their failures with attacks on President Obama. I won't let them do it without a friendly reminder of their past.
LIMBAUGH: I'm sure you're aware that nutritionist-at-large Michelle Obama is urging, demanding, advocating, requiring what everybody can and can't eat. She is demanding that everybody basically eat cardboard and tofu. No calories, no fat, no nothing -- gotta stop obesity. Except as in the case of all leftists, that's true for you, but not for them.
Michelle My Belle, minus the husband, took the kids out to Vail on a ski vacation, and they were spotted eating and they were feasting on ribs, ribs that were 1,575 calories per serving with 141 grams of fat per serving. Now I'm sure some of you members of the new castrati: "This is typical of what you do Mr. Limbaugh, you take an isolated, once in a lifetime experience, and try to say that she's a hypocrite." She is a hypocrite. Leaders are supposed to be leaders. If we're supposed to go out and eat nothing -- if we're supposed to eat roots, and berries and tree bark and so show us how. And if it's supposed to make us fit, if it's supposed to make us healthier, show us how.
The problem is -- and dare I say this -- it doesn't look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary, dietary advice. And then we hear that she's out eating ribs at 1,500 calories a serving with 141 grams of fat per serving, yeah it does -- what do you mean, what do I mean?
Limbaugh's lie was quickly debunked by an actual news organization that gives a shit about the truth, unlike 850KOA's management.
STARK: Hi, Rush. I, um... I'm calling because... Well, first of all, I'm a liberal, and I seriously don't understand this, uh, Reagan idolatry on behalf of conservatives. I'll get... I'll give you my reasons. Instead of privatizing Social Security, he raised taxes. We're all paying higher taxes today out of our paychecks every single week because he decided to save Social Security. He -
RUSH: Wait, wait. Hold it. I need to go...
RUSH: Wait. Jeez.
STARK: The Greenspan Commission. He signed it into law, and it raised taxes on Social Security.
RUSH: What...? Wait, you're talking about Reagan or Clinton?
STARK: I'm talking about Reagan. Reagan did that. He raised taxes on Social Security. He negotiated with terrorists, sending - over and over again - arms to Iran in exchange for hostages perform by contrast Jimmy Carter didn't give an inch to the Iranians.
RUSH: What in the world...?
(cue Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men")
There's more liberal goodness at Stark's place. He knows how to flummox these liars and does it regularly.
He made John Salazar forget he was a Democrat - which was pretty sad.
But what he did to Rush and Reagan was a thing of beauty: he added truth to the mix and gave Rush's listeners a backstage glimpse of their hero without the Right-wing makeup.
A Greeley radio station owner who aired an editorial denouncing the holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr. has lost his gun permit.
The Greeley Tribune reports the concealed weapon permit was permanently revoked Friday, when a judge also ordered school board member Brett Reese to stay at least 100 yards from a rival radio station owner.
Justin Sasso says Reese threatened "a shootout" over advertisers. Reese has said his remarks were misinterpreted. (The newest last refuge of a scoundrel - Z) He says he'll appeal the judge's decision.
Reese had planned to carry his handgun to school board meetings after receiving death threats for his commentaries denouncing King.
He aired the commentary every day leading up to Martin Luther King Day this week.
