Let the games begin (0.00 / 0)
I just got a call from my Mom because the Hillary campaign just called her.  They told my Mom that her caucus location is at Arvada West High School.  My mom called me last week to ask how to find her caucus, I found her caucus location was Arvada High School.  My parents live very close to Arvada High School and this is where I graduated high school.  Why would the Hillary Campaign tell my Mom to go all the way across town?

Maybe an honest mistake, I don't know, so I think there are two plausible scenarios.

- The Hillary campaign is so ineptly ran that they told a potential supporter to goto the wrong location.
- Or they are purposely trying to suppress voter turnout.

Either way I wonder if the Hillary campaign is ready for prime time, my Mom was on the fence but this just might have made her choice easier.

On a side note I am curious what happens if a person shows up at the wrong location?

I live in the state with the greatest snow on earth.

Interesting (0.00 / 0)
I'm not a huge fan of Hillary, but I'm assuming this is most likely due to miscommunication.  We're all human and make honest mistakes, right?

It is also an interesting glimpse into the machinations of her campaign.  Individually, these cases may not make much of a difference.  Collectively, however...

who do you think will win Colorado (0.00 / 0)
and by how much?

SoapBlox - the new blog framework.

Obama wins (4.00 / 1)
He is generally up by 2 points or so in Colorado in most polls, but I think his margin surpasses that.

1) The Obama ground game appears larger, better organized, and passionate.

2) All rules are off about what a 'likely voter' is this go around, and I believe that the new caucus goers skew Obama.

3) This all happens the old fashioned way, and no e-poll book or vote counters are likely to derail a large voting block.

4) Voting in the open means no "Bradley Effect"

5) The caucus system gives anyone with the edge a larger edge. The peer pressure of the room, the weight of the arguments, the fear of Pacified's beatings, it adds up.

6) Momentum

I call it Obama by 3.

Bonus: Somehow, coupled with the Giant's win, CNN says this is great win for Guiliani.

fyi, i got my 6,7,8th mailer from Obama today (0.00 / 0)
total from clinton?  zero.

Am I that micro-targeted?  They're like "here's a young Dem in Capitol Hill/Wash Park".

The mailers have been good.  And they have drawn the distinctions where they can be drawn.  I think Obama's made smart arguments, and advocated for himself over Clinton in the correct ways.  I guess I'm too young to get the whole connection to the Harry and Louise ads.

perhaps you can find these online but here is the

front

and

back

of today's mailer from Obama.  They'd really make a Kossack swoon.  One of Markos' biggest beefs with the Clintons is how the party as a whole suffered under Bill's time.

That's exactly what Barack says.

Clinton Advisors Whack Obama over Mailer

The Obama health care plan has some serious holes in it. As does Clinton's.

However, I am old enough to remember the smears generated from the "Harry and Louise" ad and the vicious personal attacks on Hillary all of which happened during the ascendence of Gingrich's 1993 "revolution."

That Obama evokes that and other Republican framing on the stump leaves me very cold.

[ Parent ]
meh (0.00 / 0)
the GOP is going to do it, and the point Obama makes is a real difference between their plans.  For how Hillary says she's ready for the "Right wing machine", if she can't take a little shot from Obama, I find it hard for her to claim she's so tough.

We can argue back and forth about the "mandate" part, but many people aren't going to like it.

Obama wins by 12 (0.00 / 0)
Obama has just been far more organized here in CO than Hillary. With the momentum going Obama's way recently, I don't see Clinton's supporters making a big effort to get to caucus. The ones who do will be hearing alot about downticket races. Also, there are really good governance reasons to vote for Obama.

I've yet to see a good reason for voting for Hillary ('course thats probably why I'm voting for Obama).

Resolution for sound Immigration Policy - federal and state (4.00 / 2)

Uncanny...I was just coming by to post a resolution to be considered and the thread is ready. I have two resolutions to post. I will post them in two comments. The Colorado Immigrants Rights Coalition is circulating this resolution asking that we rejects division, blasts special session anti-immigration law and urges congressional action on a federal level. Please print this out and take it with you to caucus. Or find it at their blog to print.

Whereas Colorado is a state that values basic democratic principles and civil liberties for all its residents and recognizes the contributions of all communities to this nation, and

Whereas the current tone of the debate with respect to immigration has been overwhelmed by demagoguery, xenophobia and mean-spiritedness that diminishes every resident in this state, and

Whereas the attacks against immigrants threaten to undermine real reforms for a range of programs important to residents of this state, including health care, worker protections and civil liberties, and

Whereas Colorado is a State that values all its residents and workers, and Whereas Colorado recognizes the chilling effect of anti-immigrant policies on all residents’ wages, standards of living, workplace and community safety, and

Whereas Colorado recognizes anti-immigrant policies have negatively impacted our economy by reducing our labor pool, tax and consumer bases Whereas Colorado’s special session anti-immigrant legislation cost the State of Colorado more than $2 million to enforce and have yet to result in cost savings to the State of Colorado

Therefore be it resolved that the Democratic Party adopt the following... "The Colorado Democratic Party stands for America's finest ideals and core community values, rejects the politics of division and isolation efforts by any candidate for office which sow isolation, fear and xenophobia against any person or community, including our newest members, recognizes the ineffectiveness of State level immigration policy, and calls on Congress to enact a just and human immigration reform bill"

unprecedented turnout (4.00 / 1)
I don't know about the other counties, but the Denver Dems were planning for something like more than 3x the usual caucus turnout.  In '06, HD4 had two caucus sites still with plenty of room.  Now we have 5 sites.   Based on some kind of magic formula and what the chicken bones are saying the one site by my house for 7 precincts could have 1200 people showing up...or more.

mmm hmmm (4.00 / 1)
It seems with every page turned in my precinct call list, the more I keep upping the estimation of the number of people who are going to show up. The formula up here in Boulder County was 4x a couple of weeks ago, I really feel we're going to beat that.

Thank goodness though it's snowing tonight and not tomorrow.

[ Parent ]
Boulder Start Time? (0.00 / 0)
You should probably add (time variable) to that 7 pm start.

Specifically, why 6:50 p.m. in Boulder County?  I'm obviously going to get there earlier than that, but it conflicts with the Polis mailer and I swore it used to say 7 o'clock.

[ Parent ]
Phew! (0.00 / 0)
Okay, that was bad precinct math.  It's going to be more like 50-80 people per precinct in Denver.

Just back from Adams Cty HD35 - Avg turnout 34 per Precinct (0.00 / 0)
in Adams, We averaged about 34 to 35 per precinct, over 300 filled the room-almost literally jam-packed, I'm new to Adams, Caucused last time in Jeffco HD29 where turnout per precinct was about 8 or 9 in 06.

Many young folks turned out there bout 1/4th under 30, SO nice to see so many there (Obama supporters mostly too) - not all Grayhairs -

How about keeping it simple? (4.00 / 1)
We always have these long platforms that include everything including the kitchen sink - and they are then ignored.

How about a single simple resolution - "do what's right, not do what's expedient?"

Platforms (4.00 / 1)
Did you just read the Boulder County "draft" version?  I'm sorry if you did.

If I wrote a platform, it would be along the lines of this length and description (without a bit saner sounding introduction)

Platform Resolution -- SAME DAY Voter Registration (4.00 / 2)
If Colorado had Election Day Voter Registration, all of the problems Denver experienced in the last election would have disappeared, and Secretary of State Ken Gordon would be working for the people, instead of fighting a rear guard action against the reactionary GOoPers.

States that have same day voter registration  increase voter turnout by approximately 5% -- many of these are first time voters, low information citizens who thought their voice didn't matter.

In other words, this is a demographic tailor made for Obama -- which is why the GOP hates the idea.

Same day registration would increase turnout at the caucuses for Obama -- and once the newbies register as Democrats, Team Obama will keep them on board.

All voters who register (or re-register) on election day would receive a provisional ballot, to make sure they are legitimate -- but that isn't really a problem, since voter fraud only exists as a GOP fantasy in their real and illegal voter suppression schemes. There is no evidence of increased voter fraud in election day voter registration states.

With Democrats in charge in the Statehouse, and the failures of the last election still fresh in Ken Gordon's mind, why not pass the law now?

The GOoPer's will squeal like stuck pigs -- but that's all they're good for, isn't it?

Colorado History (4.00 / 4)

Working with League of Women Voters and Common Cause, I spearheaded an effort here in Colorado to pass same day voter registration and we got it on the ballot as Amendment 30 in 2002. Unfortunately, it only got just over 40% of the vote.

In retrospect:
1) We should have put it on the ballot in a higher-turnout presidential election year
2) It would have done better in the aftermath of what happened to Denver voters in 2006 and other horror stories of people being denied the right to vote.

I would support national legislation that would REQUIRE states to allow qualified electors to cast their ballots after demonstrating their eligibility regardless of whether they are pre-registered. Every American has the right to vote.

I will support an Impeachment Resolution & Dem. Nominee(hope it is Obama) (4.00 / 1)

but I prefer Obama.

I am the organizer for the

and as you might expect
I will support any resolution with the word IMPEACH in it.

I plan to support the Colorado Progressive Democrats slate of resolutions which include Impeachment with the words
"We support the impeachment of Vice President Cheney".

You can access both an html and pdf version  copy at:
http://ImpeachCO.com/resolutio...
or at
http://ImpeachCO.com/resolutio...

Print it out and take it to your precinct caucus and promote it.  The Progressive Democrats are asking that the 2006 Colorado Democratic Party Platform be used as the basis for the 2008 platform.  The 2006 platform had a great impeachment plank in it so all the downloadable PD resolutions do is reaffirm the 2006 platform with some minor modifications.

Go to caucus, vote and celebrate.  This is gonna be a great Democratic year!!!

Smiley Jr High was a mad house. Nearly 1200 people, and long lines to sign in. I'm sure some people with kids and work went home, but the dedication and enthusiasm was enormous.

Many precincts had over 100 people, and 828 was the biggest with about 180 voting.

Voting was:

- 20.0% Clinton
- 01.7% Uncommitted

Looks like 22-24... favor Obama (0.00 / 0)
You have to view the district-by-district voting, but Obama seems to have won big in CO-01 and CO-02 (Denver and Boulder), which gives him 4-2 in each.

He came out more or less even in CO-05 (Colorado Springs) for 2-2.

The four 5-delegate districts all look solidly 50.1% or better for Obama, making then 3-2 each.

Adding them all up, we get 22-14.

Now, we aren't gold until the March 8 County Assemblies.

Plus we have the super-delegates, and the Colorado establishment leans Clinton. Finally, I'm not sure how the state-wide proportionate delegates work in Colorado.

clinton: 3

delegate: me.

It was my passionate speech for obama that one the day ;)

Caucuses are the most awesome thing.  I loved it.  I'd do it more often.

hehe (0.00 / 0)
no.

I gave the 3 points.

1- I'm 27 and have never not had a bush/clinton on the ticket
2- Dems lost many seats under Clinton, 12 Govs, 7 Senators, and 46 House Reps
3- Hillary was wrong on the war.  She's going to have to spend the whole general election being attacked with the "was for it, not against it line".

I should have added down-ticket appeal.  I firmly believe Udall will have a better chance with Obama on the top of the ticket.

Thank you! (4.00 / 5)

Thank you to everyone who caucused for Obama, Hillary, Gravel, and even the others who aren't actively running any more!

Thank you to everyone who caucused for me!

We're feeling good about tonight. Colorado Democratic voters expressed a desire for change. The voters- many young, all representing what democracy is truly about, are all calling for the same thing: change.

Our volunteers and supporters took on a candidate backed by nearly every special interest in the state involved with this race, and we're more than holding our own. THANK YOU.

This is a victory for the people of the Democratic party.

Onwards to August 12th and November 4th!
