It's that time of year when media outlets churn out their retrospectives for the year. The Associated Press has come out with its list of the top 10 news stories for Colorado in 2007, and number one is . . . the Rockies going to the World Series? Seriously? Number two is a tie between Denver being awarded the Democratic National Convention and the effects of last winter's blizzards on ranchers (and more to the point, their cattle) in eastern Colorado. Either of those would rank ahead of the World Series on my list.
Fortunately, this is a blog, so we can weigh in with our own opinions of the list -- what should have been higher ranked and what was left out. I think Mark Udall's announcement that he will run for U.S. Senate and the subsequent Democratic primary fight in his old district is the top story that got left out. Also not making the top ten list was the battle to stop the Army from condemning private property in the Piñon Canyon area. Ritter's executive order on state employee partnerships made the list, but not his veto of the reform of the Labor Peace Act.
Sound off in the comments on what you think were the top Colorado news stories of 2007, and take the poll.
