Abu Gonzales is out.

Bush promised Reid there wouldn't be any recess appointments.
Anybody trust Bush? Me neither.

All we would need to stop it, and ensure the Senate does its Constitutionally mandated job of oversight, is for Harry Reid to call together a couple of Senators for a pro-forma session for a couple of minutes.

I don't supopose Allard or Salazar are the men for the job, but what the heck I'll ask anyhow.

Please, Senators, it is the right thing to do. This has nothing to do with partisanship. This has to do with ensuring that the Justice Department remains impartial. Side with America on this one.

What a nice surprise for a Monday morning! (n/t) (0.00 / 0)

Be a community organizer, sign-up at East Denver Neighborhood Volunteers for Change.

Nice start to the week! (0.00 / 0)
Who's next?

"Be the change you wish to see in the world"

It is essential (4.00 / 3)
that senators hear right now that they must:

1)  Make it clear to the Bush administration that a recess appointment is out of the question.

2)  Do anything else necessary to prevent a recess appointment.

3)  Make it clear to the White House that it is unacceptable to run out the clock with an acting AG.  This could apparently happen, as pointed out by Mike Allen via Glenn Greenwald.  Watch for Bush to nominate an utterly unacceptable person, so that the "acting AG clock" can be reset upon failure of the Senate to confirm that unacceptable person.

Make sure your voter registration is up to date!

Recess Appointment (4.00 / 2)
Josh Marshall is watching out for it too.

This is another test for Democrats.  Are they going to shrug their shoulders, take the "bi-partisan" approach and let it happen? Or will they stand up and stop Bush from manipulating the system.

The effective date is 9/17 (or something close to that) (0.00 / 0)
The Senate will be back by the time it's official.

Bush already has a replacement (4.50 / 2)

Iglesias comment (0.00 / 0)
David Iglesias notes the proper role of the AG:

"I just hope that the next Attorney General is a person who understands the core mission in the Justice Department is not to play politics, it is to enforce the law," Iglesias said. "And it's to give the president hard advice that he sometimes doesn't want to hear like, 'Mr. President, you can't do that, it's not constitutional.'"

Casey Mulligan

Unfortunately... (4.00 / 1)
...as long as Bush is in office, that may never happen.

If You Listen to Fools, the Mob Rules!!!!

Dropping like Flies. (0.00 / 0)
Thank God.  Is there any truth to the Chertoff rumors?

If You Listen to Fools, the Mob Rules!!!!
