What is the price that Republicans want from working men and women?

U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy asking his Republican colleagues (when can we end the "My friend across the aisle" formality that insults voters' intelligence?) to end their 5-day filibuster of a minimum wage increase of $2.10 over two years.

This small request followed votes that gave tax cuts worth $240 Billion to corporations and gave tax cuts worth $36 Billion to Millionaires and Billionaires.

This unrepentant Democrat asked his colleagues the pertinent questions:

"What is the price that you want from these working men and women?"

"What cost?"

"How much more do we have to give to private sector businesses?

"When does the greed stop?"

This is a Democratic United States Senator fighting for his constituents, fighting for the Middle Class, fighting for the common decency of our lowest paid workers not to have to turn to food stamps and Medicaid even after working a full-time job.

Would those Republican senators be shamed? No.

Would those Republican senators be moved to end their filibuster and throw a bone to the Middle Class? No.

Sadly, Teddy Kennedy is gone. Sadly, those same questions that should be asked today are not being asked by our current representatives.

More sadly, I don't think I'll ever see the day that either Michael Bennet or Mark Udall musters the same passion to stand up for America's workers at a time when America's Executives and Corporations are doing better than ever and America's Middle Class is perched on a ledge poised to be pushed off a cliff under a bipartisan agreement between Democrats and Republicans who can see no further that the CEOs and deficit hawks who lobby them daily in their walnut-lined offices.

Sadly, it seems the greed will not be stopping any time soon.
