Finally, Doug Lamborn has received a real, honest-to-God endorsement today. He must be so proud.

I just got back from the presser and here's the report: The endorsement is on embossed stationery with a signature and statement and "Paid for by the RNC" tag and everything. All you could want in a big time endorsement - except one thing.

First, let's go to the tape:

Zappatero :: A Real Endorsement for Doug Lamborn
First let me start by saying how pleased I am that we have such a strong candidate for the House of Representatives in the 5th District of Colorado.
OK, boring, just like Doug.
With your real world experience and background, we need you in congress.

Real world military experience that consists of writing a bill to create Bronze Star License plates? That's not good enough for me.

Jay Fawcett was awarded the Bronze Star in Gulf War I - that's what I call real world experience. And that's the kind of person we desperately need in Congress now. The finale......

I will work with my colleages in the Republican leadership to make this Armed Services Committee assignment become reality. I am pleased that you have chosen to seek election to the House of Representatives....

Oops.

The one thing lacking is that this is the same Speaker Hastert who is in charge of the GOPedophilia cover-up by Republican House Leadership of Representative Mark Foley's (R-FL) recent trolling for Capitol Hill interns.

Here's what Jay Fawcett had to say:

"If Speaker Hastert wants to give him a seat, that's fine. If he thinks he'll have a job in November then he can legitimately make that commitment.

The problem is that Doug Lamborn doesn't have the requisite knowledge about the Armed Services Committee, let alone the Armed Services themselves, to perform this job satisfactorily. He won't be able to ask tough questions nor hold our leaders accountable when they send our young men and women off to war.

Doug Lamborn will be just another Rubber Stamp for this failed Republican Congress. This endorsement is meaningless."

Maybe next time, Doug. Keep trying.

The value of this endorsement (0.00 / 0)
The nod for Armed Services would, as Jay notes, probably not be a good fit for Mr. Lamborn, in the hypothetical event of his election.

In a wider sense, though, the endorsement has real meaning -- negative value, really -- given the absolute failure of the Republican leadership in the U.S. House to deal with the Foley situation for months after knowing about it.

Two U.S. reps. have specifically said that they notified Hastert of the situation (one later changed his mind, but the reporters are sticking to their story).

Dennis Hastert is in deep shit.  Does Doug Lamborn really want to have this guy on his side?

Will Doug turn down the endorsement (0.00 / 0)
from a person who covers up for a known gay child predator? Intersting dilemna for Doug?

Over at MyDD ... (0.00 / 0)
... Matt Stoller is wondering why there hasn't been an uproar from the religious/rightwing organizations that generally have a lot to say about issues such as these.

One would hope that Lamborn would turn down the endorsement.

One would hope that FotF and similar groups will, in public, take on the House Republican leadership for its horrendous coverup of this situation.

At least now we know what the "P" in GOP stands for! Must be part of that Republican Leadership training!
