(Our very own SoS Gessler has made the ThinkProgress Top 5 Worst list - promoted by Zappatero)
News: Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler is under investigation by the Colorado Independent Ethics Commission and by the District Attorney.
Views: The Democratic party has not taken the Secretary of State position seriously enough.
Ken Gordon worked hard to win the position, and came very close (50.8-49.2) against an opponent with far greater name recognition (Mike Coffman had been elected state treasurer before).
When Coffman then moved on to get his congressional seat, rather than appoint Gordon, who would have had a leg up on winning the position in 2010, having run such a close race before, then Gov. Ritter decided to appoint a nearly total unknown, Bernie Buescher to fill out the term. Then Buescher ran a pretty weak campaign and got beat by this suspected criminal.
If we're going to have free and fair elections, we need to concentrate on the Secretary of State office and work to elect people who believe in free and fair elections.
