Funny, but not "ha ha" funny

There sure are a lot of conservatives and Republicans calling into Progressive talk radio these days. This wouldn't be one of those Koch Brothers initiatives, would it?

One very well-prepared and 100% on message conservative just got off the line with Gloria on AM760.

He had all the lies lined up in a row, each time she responded to one, he came at her with another. She knocked almost all of them down.

The one I would have emphasized is the "Obama added trillions to the deficit" lie:

  • The trillions added to our nation's debt were mostly on account of Bush's two wars and tax cuts for the wealthy. All those "emergency supplemental" budget requests were done specifically to keep spending for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars off budget. The first thing President Obama did was put all the spending in the real budget for eveyone to see. Lesson here: Obama trued up the budget and was immediately attacked as the one who spent the money.
  • "The stimulus didn't work." Again, being bipartisan, Obama and the Dems put tons of tax cuts in the stimulus. The only problem is that tax cuts provide very little economic impact while direct cash spending provides the best economic impact. Again: Democrats let the urge to be bipartisan ruin what could have been a turning point policy in this Great Recession. Instead, the stimulus become just another tax giveaway to the wealthy.
  • "There weren't enough shovel-ready jobs." The jobs were, and still are, there, we just need to spend the money on them. There is no tax cut that will build a bridge. There is no tax cut that will build high-speed rail from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins, no matter the beneficial economic impact.

I give Gloria an 'B' on that call, but I know she'll knock them all down next time.
