(THE POLLS ARE NOT CLOSED!!!! Sorry for reporting that! They are to close at 1 AM Mountain! - promoted by pacified)

(If you agree with our message of unity, please consider recommending this diary. Thanks! We will be liveblogging at DailyKos at 10:30 a.m. CST/9:30 a.m. MST. We hope you will join us! --John and Bill)

Dear Governor Warner,

We were both very honored and excited to be a part of your Mapchangers contest throughout the past several weeks. The netroots community and all of the campaigns involved have appreciated your support of the grassroots--giving candidates a chance to be seen on the national picture, bringing attention to our respective fights against Lamar Smith and Tom Tancredo, and overall just giving us a boost in general.

Today marks the final day in the contest. The vote has swung back and forth, and one of us is usually in the lead by only a few dozen votes one way or another. Supporters all over the state in both Colorado and Texas have put their fingers to the keyboards, and have promoted this contest, voted, and spread the word more than either of us could ever have hoped for. It is incredibly encouraging to see the power of the grassroots in full effect, and by working together, we will advance to victory in November.

Today, we make an open letter, formal request to you, Governor, through the conduit of the netroots that this contest has coursed through across this country.

BGW1964 :: An Open Letter to Gov. Mark Warner
In general circumstances, Courage supporters would fight tooth-and-nail for Winter, and Winter supporters would do the same for Courage. We're both challengers, we're both bringing the fight to incumbents who have left their (and our) districts as well as our nation behind, and we are both Fighting Dems.

In the military, we were taught to never leave a brother behind. And neither one of us wants to leave a fellow Fighting Dem behind either.

Governor Warner, we are both formally requesting a visit from you--please come join us for a fundraiser in Texas for John Courage as well as one for Bill Winter in Colorado.

We understand that this may be unusual and respect your rules of the contest--and if you cannot come to both of our states, may the best man win.

However, if you could accept our request, we would both be incredibly honored.

In Democratic Unity,

John Courage
Fighting Dem, Candidate, U.S. Representative, TX-21

Bill Winter
Fighting Dem, Candidate, U.S. Representative, CO-06

Great diary!

How can Warner say no to this? It's obvious from the standings in this race that these two candidates have significant backing from the net-folks. Come on down to Colorado folks!

Y'all in Colorado are amazing. I am very happy to be able to work together with Bill in this final day.

Hey I'm back, (0.00 / 0)
didja miss me?  I've been in Wyoming for a week and a half.

I just sent a couple email salvos out for Bill on this final day of voting.  Only 8 votes difference currently!!

Man, I expect to come back after vacation and slog through my email for a while.  But you all put so much good stuff out at SquareState while I was gone, I think I'm going to have to dedicate a couple hours just to catching up here...

Leadership and accountability: Vote for Hillary Hall and Claire Levy in Boulder County on August 8th.

Impressed.. (3.50 / 2)
This is an example of the new morning in our party. It is an example of the progressive movement away from the traditional "me..me" to US..made the calls from my voter list Winter folks provided..made a point to let everyone i talked with to include squarestate as THE Source for the progressive pulse in our State..

This letter, along with the netroots expressed by the votes, will not be ignored by a man who plans to be a candidate for President. Classy move by both campaigns...

How are there 200 votes for Courage in the last hour? (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Because if they are clever... (0.00 / 0)
They have been registering accounts and not voting until the last moment so that they can make a sudden burst at the end and hope to catch us unprepared to keep pace.

Let's get out that vote!

had the Texas Dem Party send an afternoon blast, along with several Texas campaigns.  It was a sudden and obvious turnaround.

Just sent out an email blast to all the letter to the editor writers (4.00 / 1)
on Angie's campaign. Some do not receive her emails so this should cover all bases--178 writers total in the blast.

If they haven't voted because they haven't heard by now about this contest, this email ends that excuse.

Warner's Smart (0.00 / 0)
I don't think the noise level by either guy's team will determine this.

I said it before, he should go to all 10 to develop his creds with the local voters.

Colorado and Bill Winter kick ass!!! (0.00 / 0)
Even if Bill came in second--Texas has more than 5 times Colorado's population.  And the other Texas candidates folded their support into John Courage's.  And the Texas Dem Party supported him with email blasts.

I'm very, very impressed with the way Bill rallied the netroots on this and on the Progressive Patriots vote Russ Feingold held.

That sound you hear is Tommy Tancredo whimpering.

It's always good to give credit where credit is due, right??

So thanks to all of you for all the updates, comments, diaries, etc. This is such an exciting time to be living in CO.

Yay Bill! Yay CO!

I hope and trust that ... (0.00 / 0)
Forward Together PAC will, in addition to the heeeuuuuuge list building it's done for itself, chaperone a mailing to all who voted for any candidate at any stage of the contest, inviting them to sign up for the list(s) of the candidate.

Ideally, it'd be great if they'd engineer a solution that'd be a one-click link in an "invitation email" that generates a subscription record, to be confirmed by another link in a confirmation email generated upon clicking of the first link.  That'd be a confirmed opt-in approach ... and they could deliver a list at of the opters-in at that point to the campaigns.

In addition to the fundraising and PR from Gov. Warner's visit, this is an opportunity for the campaigns to add to their lists.  I suspect there are a lot of folks who voted who are not yet on the candidates' lists.
