I arrived late and was told most of the righties left to go on their lobbyist paid for bus tour.  See, I knew it!  However, being at the end means I get to see part of the story the traditional press isn't going to cover.  Aaron decided to follow the few remaining righties as they left.  About a block down the street and look what happens.

tea-bagger's lobbyist overlords

Gee, these people wouldn't be staffers for Freedom Works, or any of the well funded organizations paid by the health insurance industry would they?

Were you there?  Share stories, photos, videos.

Health care rally

UPDATE - just heard that the lobbyist paid bus tour just stopped in Colorado Springs with 100 people.  100 people in the heart of right-wing crazy town, with a chauffeured bus, promotion by astroturf groups and now Fox News?  That's a whole ball of embarrassing.

johne :: Just some everyday citizens? Then who are the suits?
tea-baggers are leaving

Here they are just before meeting their lobbyist overlords.  Notice the signs?  I thought it was all about healthcare.  Yeah right.

rain
A few minutes after the spy mission it started to pour.  None of my photos picked it up, but you could see the waves of rain coming down from the sky.  Or, I guess you would call them wavelets.  The wavelets got me really wet.

All the comments disappeared.

crap (0.00 / 0)
were they already comments?  This is a new diary.  I screwed up the title of the first one, and the only way to fix it was to start a new one.  Sorry!

That's ok, but yea (4.00 / 3)
there were several comments.

Here is mine partially reposted.

I went and I had planned on being fairly passive aggresive, but we were not allowed in as it was a closed event so I got a bit involved. lol

Jerlyn from TalkLeft.com got in and will be posting some photos and one youtube interview.

I was the loud one there. When they (the teabaggers) were yelling "JUST SAY NO". I was yelling on the downbeat..."THAT"S ALL YOU EVER SAY" ..."THAT'S ALL YOU EVER KNOW."

I got into a few discussions with the overwhelmingly older teabaggers and they all had Social Security, Medicare and VA benefits. Their signs said something about socialized medicine. I pointed out that they are ON socialized medicine.

They got theirs...I want some too. Was another thing I pressed.

"READ THE BILL" was another shouted out, I countered on the downbeat..."Its Wonderful!...Its Great!...Its Wonderful...Its Great!"

They didn't like me much. LOL

I am everything my Mother always told me I was...a smart-alek and a hell raiser.

Hope I get to see some video/footage.
I should have brought water and a hat. It was hot. Of course now that I am home the thunder storm is starting. Whew.

You talk smack. :D

Thanks for doing this. (0.00 / 0)
They seem to enjoy discrediting themselves, so there's no reason why we can't enjoy it too--in a totally bipartisan way, of course.

I was there... (4.00 / 5)
and hot.  I arrived about 2:20, and left @3:00 after it seemed the opposition had mostly abandoned ship.

I spent about 10 minutes chatting up one woman who was holding a "government out of my healthcare".  Her idea is that we should get rid of social security, medicare, and all public insurance, and the "free market" will take care of it all.  Oh, and tort reform -- that will fix everything.

She was surprised when I pointed out that medical malpractice insurance/awards was responsible for less than 1% of health care cost.  I suggested that she should understand the basis of a talking point before using it.

Her next talking point was that a public option would drive private insurance out of business, and that would cost a lot of jobs. I asked if she liked having her insurance premiums and health care spending going for make work.  She had no response.

Then, of course, was the big "but it's too expensive" line.  So I asked her how, if we already are spending more per capita, and more as a percentage of GDP, and getting worse results, than any other industrialized nation, how we could possibly spend more -- we already have so much damned money sloshing around in the system.  At that point she wandered off without replying (and seemed to avoid me after that).

No, I don't think she's a convert.  But perhaps there are some niggling doubts there.

i love niggling doubts - those are almost the best kind of doubts!

I love it when they talk "tort reform." (4.00 / 2)
It's code talk for deregulation and empowering corporations over natural persons. What's not well understood is that we have two regulatory schemes working in tandem in the US. On one hand there are the governmental regulators: the SEC; OSHA inspectors; the FDA; etc. On the other hand, we have torts. If somebody breaches a duty of care (e.g., I find a decomposing snail in my ginger beer or asbestos in my lungs), then I can sue for negligence. The way this usually works is that somebody gets harmed, gets compensated by an insurance company, and the insurance company brings suit under the harmed person's name to recover the money it's already paid out. What "tort reform" means, then, is corporate droit de seigneur. On a more general level, I can never get my mind around these lower SES characters who seem unable to identify their genuine interests. Never underestimate the power of Stockholm Syndrome, I suppose.

A teabagger slammed into me (4.00 / 1)
while I was politely walking through the crowd.  These are not friendly or even respectful people.

I had a similar experience (0.00 / 0)
as did a few who were with me.  An older fellow in a straw hat was pretty unpleasant, but his wife spent a little time talking to him.

What's with the handprint? (0.00 / 0)
I noticed that some of the baggers were wearing t-shirts with handprints on them. From reading Colorado labor history I know that a letter with a red handprint was kinda like the dead fish on the doorstep. The symbol is also linked to the Ulster Loyalist Volunteer Force, a dead ender Protestant terrorist organization: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/eve...

Many Denverdems Were There (0.00 / 0)
It included some of the leadership, who were with all of us.

The big guy in the "State" ball cap and yellow shirt (Big Yellow) was one of their "leaders" and their loudest cheer leader. The young woman with the yellow flag stood near me after their shorter advocates couldn't raise their signs above ours.  They tried singing "God Bless America" and all joined in which wasn't what they wanted, so they stopped.

One of our group brought a portable bull horn when the baggers were loudest.  They didn't like it and tried to shout it down, and some, including "Big Yellow", pushed the horn and one or two put their hands on the guy. Finally, they asked one of the police officers to ask bull horn to either turn it off or move.  He moved, and a lot of air went out of the baggers from then on.

The thing was not designed to go after health care, it was a political rally designed to embarrass our Congresspersons.  Some of us would yell, "You Lost!" when they voiced their demands.

Though the baggers were pretty loud when an SUV (with Diane, Nancy and Jared?) drove into the sealed area, but about that time our people had begun to pour rain on their parade, before the weather had finished them off.

A couple of baggers were upset that Diana isn't having an open town hall, and one of ours reminded them of the Bush halls here and elsewhere.  Big Yellow kept referring to his notes when he wanted to respond to one of our truths.  If this is the best the Righties can bring, they are truly pathetic.

A note: people were not violent, though they were loud.  I got into a few discussions, noting that the health care situation is difficult for companies  which compete with German, Japanese, Canadian and Swiss firms.  It did shut up a college age young man who didn't expect a liberal to know something about economics or business.

I'm glad we put this out. Now, let's make sure that we get information to everyone as early as possible.  Like the Batrop County Democrats in Texas, we can get our people to events if we know about them in advance.

They lost. Now let them get over it.

Keep up the good work, all.

Teabagger shoves healthare advocate into traffic (3.67 / 3)
So I did not get it in frame, but you can hear me react to this woman shoving someone into Broadway after I told her to not call the police because she was upset that the bullhorn was too loud.  At the end of the clip, the woman is trying to wave down a police car that was passing by.

Wow (0.00 / 0)
I guess little lady tea bagger needs the protection of the socialist police force (our tax dollars do pay for them) to protect her delicate ears when choosing to stand in front of a bullhorn.  I guess she missed out on the day her party was preaching about personal responsibility.  Oh wait.

Funny to see that fascism poster with the swastika because when I saw it there was a little kid in a stroller holding it. Nice job to that mom, but at least she recycles and passed it on to someone else.
