(If you can do one thing tomorrow, try to show up.  Make it a late lunch and maybe get photos or video of the insurance industry funded bus show up with screaming wing-nut zombies. - promoted by johne)

UPDATE: TalkLeft will be there, too.

Little Missy Malkin doesn't like our democracy so much:

This is a last minute Protest Alert

Nancy Pelosi, Jared Polis and Diana DeGette will be at Denver's Stout Street Clinic Tomorrow.

When: August 6, 2009

Time: 2:00 PM

Where:
Stout Street Clinic
2100 Broadway
Denver, CO

Front Range & Broomfield 912 Groups will be attending. Spread the word, any 912 or Tea Party support will be appreciated!
(912 is Glenn Beck's group of twisted followers.)

Here's some advice from The Dog.

Mario says we should sit the foreigners at the back. I agree.

My piece of advice is to bring a sign saying "I don't have a voice with my health insurer either!"

We can out-number them, we can out-smart them, so we won't have to out-shout them.

Don't let the Luddites win this war!

(Oh, and by the way, this is who we're supposed to be bipartisan with!)

Zappatero :: Malkin and her Thugs are going to disrupt DeGette, Jared, Pelosi tomorrow

Do one thing for health care reform (4.00 / 3)
Barack Obama sent an email earlier today that lined up the reasons why we need to be in the fight and help make it happen.
For one month, the fight for health insurance reform leaves the backrooms of Washington, D.C., and returns to communities across America. Throughout August, members of Congress are back home, where the hands they shake and the voices they hear will not belong to lobbyists, but to people like you.
...
But every day we don't act, Americans watch their premiums rise three times faster than wages, small businesses and families are pushed towards bankruptcy, and 14,000 people lose their coverage entirely. The cost of inaction is simply too much for the people of this nation to bear.

So yes, fixing this crisis will not be easy. Our opponents will attack us every day for daring to try. It will require time, and hard work, and there will be days when we don't know if we have anything more to give. But there comes a moment when we all have to choose between doing what's easy, and doing what's right.

This is one of those times. And moments like this are what this movement was built for. So, are you ready?

The email asks people to signup to be notified of events local to them.  Well, I'm telling you, this is one of those events.  If you can't make it at 2pm, what about a late lunch around 1pm or 1:30?  The teabaggers are likely showing up in busses.  It would be great to get some video or photographs of them coming off that PHARMA and AHIP lobbyist paid bus.  If you can spare just 15 minutes to be a friendly body, take photos or video of the craziest of the crazies, it's worth it.  I actually have something at 2:30 that I can't reschedule, but I will be showing up just after.  Who knows.  Maybe I can catch them getting back on their lobbyist paid bus.

I'll be there. (4.00 / 1)
I'm tired of these thugs.  This is OUR turf.  Let's send a message.  Come on all, help send a message and let's flood the place and flood them out!

All we need to do... (3.00 / 1)
...is show up and act normal. The other guys seem to enjoy discrediting themselves, and there's no reason why we shouldn't enjoy their fun too. If you see a reporter, point to the teabaggers and say, "There's your story. That's what's left of the Republican Party."

There is no elite, so take your place in the driver's seat.

[ Parent ]
Count me in! (4.00 / 2)
I've done a bit more griping at Rep. Polis here than I should; now is the time to stand with Polis, DeGette, and Pelosi, and let them know we have their back and that we will not stand for this irrational nonsense perpetrated by the Tea-baggers.

See you there--an hour early if possible!

Please, somebody bring a video camera. (4.00 / 1)
An event like this is made for video bloggers. The more mainstream America sees of the teabaggers the better it is for us. Oh, and there's a salient difference between Code Pink, Mike Stark and these nim-numbs. Code Pink and Stark try to force the right to defend their position; the teabaggers are out to silence people.

There is no elite, so take your place in the driver's seat.

Under no circumstances (4.00 / 2)
should we let these people promote us to any kind of violence.

It would be fun to write our questions on poster boards, so it doesn't matter if the screamers out shout us. That way if the wing nut media shows up they can read our questions!

We could use duck tape, and hold a sign that says, why won't you let us talk.

It would be super fun if enough people showed up, to ask all those who were residents of Colorado to SIT DOWN, and leave the wing nuts standing.

All action should uphold the principles of non-violence.

Health care is pro-life. Health rights is how they describe it in Canada.

inspire change..... don't back down

I believe all teabagging hacks (4.00 / 1)
are being directed by a site, called Recess Rallies.

The wingnuts are using opposite truth. They insist that screaming so no one can be heard and no debate can take place, is about us silencing them.

Remember, Nancy Pelosi is a pro. She is not easily rattled. I am sure she can handle the heat. She has been for  years.

It should be fun.

inspire change..... don't back down

Another great question to ask (4.00 / 1)
at this 'townhall', would be.....

Let's see a show of hands of folks that think our President is a legal citizen of the United States.

If not, do you think he was born in Kenya?

The nutters wouldn't be able to hold back on that one.

inspire change..... don't back down

Fairly new resident...where do I go? (0.00 / 0)
dropping my wife off at the airport tomorrow and just found out about this.
Is there a group of you meeting somewhere?
I live near Boulder and have no idea where this place is.

Thanks

If you have a computer (0.00 / 0)
You can just use mapquest.

[ Parent ]
Well, yeah, technically... (0.00 / 0)
however, as I'm frequently reminded to my chagrin, mapquest/google's suggested routes aren't always the best options.

Last weekend I had to drive from Medford to Klamath Falls, OR.  I forgot to ask my brother which route was best, so ended up looking it up online.  The "suggested" route, which certainly looked shortest, ended up being the worst -- over a twisty, turny, drop-off-that-set-my-high-road-phobia-twanging route that I crept over with sweaty palms (knowing if I stopped I'd never get the nerve to start again).  The drive back was much shorter in time and angst, although longer in miles.

Just saying....

in downtown Denver. Eeks!

[ Parent ]
Easy answer is (4.00 / 1)
that it's at Broadway and Stout Street, downtown Denver.  Only tricky part is that that part of downtown Denver is wonky because of the way the downtown core is catty-wumpus to the rest of the street grid.

Although there's likely a more direct route, the easier way would be coming off of I-25 south from Boulder, take the Colfax exit; take Colfax east to Lincoln; turn left (north -- one way street).  At 20th, Lincoln disappears -- follow the signs to veer west and get onto Broadway, and then start looking for a place to park -- you'll be within a couple of blocks of Stout Street.

[ Parent ]
Heck (4.00 / 1)
Take the bus down to Union Station and walk up to Broadway and Stout! Why drive and have to deal with the hassle of parking downtown at lunchtime when you can reduce your carbon footprint by taking public transportation?

[ Parent ]
Do we have cameras coming? (0.00 / 0)
I work near there, but I don't have any cameras with me.  If need be, I can see if elder son can bring the camcorder down (if it has a live battery... hasn't been used in months).  Or I can try to run home and get the camcorder and my camera.

Bossman's in depos today (0.00 / 0)
so I'll whip home to grab my camera and the camcorder in an hour or two.  That way I can charge up the camcorder battery if needed.  Good thing I live only a couple of miles from downtown.

You Do Not Have Health Insurance (0.00 / 0)
A good post with strong points to keep in mind

Right now, it appears that the biggest barrier to health care reform is people who think that it will hurt them. According to a New York Times poll, "69 percent of respondents in the poll said they were concerned that the quality of their own care would decline if the government created a program that covers everyone." Since most Americans currently have health insurance, they see reform as a poverty program - something that helps poor people and hurts them. If that's what you think, then this post is for you.

You do not have health insurance. Let me repeat that. You do not have health insurance. (Unless you are over 65, in which case you do have health insurance. I'll come back to that later.)

The point of insurance is to protect you against unlikely but damaging events. You are generally happy to pay premiums in all the years that nothing goes wrong (your house doesn't burn down), because in exchange your insurer promises to be there in the one year that things do go wrong (your house burns down). That's why, when shopping for insurance, you are supposed to look for a company that is financially sound - so they will be there when you need them...

You Do Not Have Health Insurance

It's interesting... (0.00 / 0)
...that as a society we've turned to a financial instrument for excluding liability for property damage as a means of protecting life an health. Thanks for pointing out the fundamental insanity at the core of our current healthcare system.

Grassroots orginizations (1.40 / 5)
The grassroots organizations like the tea parties and the 912 projects are not funded organizations. They may receive donations from members for expenses they incur such as printing flyers or paying for rental on the meeting room. They in no way take Federal, State or local money. These organizations are in there infantcy and don't have access to any funding. On the other hand groups like Acorn, have ties to goverment agencies and do receive government funding. This is where every thing goes wrong. Groups who receive money from the goverment through funding programs or grants, find themselves becoming slaves to those supporting them financialy. This is leads to groups like Acron to become lobbists for those who support them. Groups like the 912 project don't have those kinds of ties. I have friends that are members of these groups most if not all have not been asked to contribute money, only there time. If it is a volenteer group than I would consider it to be grassroots. Before everyone listens to the reterick coming from Washington as to the make up of these groups on should investigate and find out the true facts. The internet along with the media is a skewed version of the truth. Talk to some people in these groups before listening to the bashing. Like I said I have freinds that are members of the 912 group. They were never recruited, they went there under their own power. The are not rich, They are just average Americans, some democrats, Repubs, and Independents. They all share in the same ideals. As long as they stay away from governmnet money and backing political candidates that I would indeed call them grassroot.

And a thought or two:

The people who are against reform, Obama, our government, etc., are generally very angry. I would say they were outnumbered today, but not by a large amount, and they certainly won't be out-shouted. It's unfortunate they decided to make a principled stand against our government six years after Iraq, but...

There are a lot of different, valid arguments to be made when it comes to health care, but the issue really boils down to whether or not you believe medical care is an inalienable right. As I heard one opponent (who was also upset that alternative medicine isn't supported in the calls for reform) say, "Health care is not a right. You can go spend money and get all the health care you need."

I should also note (0.00 / 0)
Righties can be just as nasty as Lefties. Saw quite a few snarky signs regarding Pelosi and cosmetic surgery.
