In a statement just released today two years ago, congressman congressional hopeful Jared Polis '07 took sides in the ongoing debate on funding health care.

votepolis.com 2007

I strongly believe that access to quality, affordable health care is a right and not a privilege, and it is imperative that we take action to meet the pressing health care needs of our nation...
...putting patients above special interests...
...I oppose the Bush administration's proposed deductions that provide the largest tax benefits to high-income individuals who can already afford health insurance and add substantially to already-large budget deficits.

It is good to see at least one Jared Polis recognize that rolling back Bush era tax cuts on the wealthy is a fair sacrifice, and respects the rights of all those without health care.

I hope that Polis '07 gets a chance to lobby Polis '09 on this. I hear that Polis '07 has a lot of money to donate, so maybe Polis '09 will listen.

I agree with myself fully.

Not only do I "oppose the Bush administration's proposed deductions that provide the largest tax benefits to high-income individuals who can already afford health insurance," but I also support the expiration of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, and voted for the same in our annual budget.

We have recieved an excellent reaction from leadership to the concerns of the freshmen about the impact of the surcharge of small business, and am confident that it is being addressed. I am also confident that the outcome of the freshmen letter will be a stronger bill that more new members can enthusiastically get behind.

Whose post did you delete, Johne? Polis '07 or Polis '09? I thought maybe it was intentional.

While you're here, Rep. Polis, (4.00 / 1)
what is your take on members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus expression of concern over the compromise legislation worked out between Rep. Waxman and the Blue Dogs?

(from Talking Points Memo):

Now that House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Henry Waxman has enough Blue Dog support to pass the bill, he has to sell it with progressives. And that's not proving to be as easy as he'd hoped.

"[They] have a lot of questions about the legislation," Waxman told reporters, "and I think it's more important that we sit in the Democratic Caucus and let people ask questions, get answers, hear each other out."

What exactly are their concerns? Well, for one, the compromise included a change to the public option that could weaken it on the merits. As originally written, the House bill would have temporarily tied the public option's pay rates to Medicare rates. Now they'll be negotiated by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, meaning the rates will vary regionally, and often fall closer to private insurance rates than government rates.

But more generally, the Congressional Progressive Caucus basically believes that their views have been marginalized throughout the Blue Dog process, and are understandably frustrated about being asked to accept compromises with Blue Dogs when they've already compromised a great deal. Last week, several House progressives warned that they couldn't tolerate any further weakening of the public option, and asked to play a greater role in negotiations. Now they feel leaders ignored their concerns.

The CPC (4.00 / 1)
needs to flex its muscles as often and as hard as the Blue Dogs.  Their views cannot be marginalized at the expense of mollifying ConservaDems.

Progressive Dems (4.00 / 3)
I just came out of the Progressive Dem meeting about an hour ago. Needless to say there is great concern (and anger) about the compromise and we are letting leadership know in no uncertain terms that we see a robust public option as a critical part of this reform effort, and that this deal does not represent the will of the Democratic caucus.

So Congressman Polis (0.00 / 0)
Are you ready to stop voting against Health Insurace Reform?

Are you ready to vote in favor of a public option that helps thousands and thousands of small businesses in your district even if that means that the tiny percentage of small businesses that make over a million in profit might have to pay a very small increase in taxes?

Are you ready to be a team player and not make headlines sending public letters that erode support of health insurance reform for the thousands of people who desperately need health insurance in your district?

Will you urge your fellow congress people to work in the most expeditious manner possible so that the number of houses forclosed, the number of people who lose insurance, becomes less instead of more.

And let's be frank, people die for lack of health insurance.

Who is online, 07 or 09?

The comment spammers are getting more sophisticated.  This one didn't automatically register and post comments.  They waited several days.  But then, posted a bunch of comments in several diaries.  So, not that sophisticated.
