Bob Moore at the Coloradoan blogs on a new independent ad thanking US Rep. Betsy Markey for supporting the ACES bill.

The ad, produced by the Environmental Defense Action Fund, is the third in the past two weeks thanking Markey for her vote on the ACES legislation, commonly called the cap and trade bill. There has been no similar effort critical of Markey's vote, though the National Republican Congressional Committee paid for automated phone calls attacking her vote.

"We're saluting Betsy Markey for voting for Colorado's future," states the newest 30-second TV ad, which is running on Fort Collins and Greeley cable systems.

The ad was paid for by Abound Solar, Wirsol Solar Independence, GenGreen Life, Vestas American Wind Technology, New Belgium Brewing and Bella Energy.

This follows the Americans United for Change ad that went up recently.

I hear has a pretty green life-cycle assessment on some of their products. Good for them.

Is this a new trend? (0.00 / 0)
Interest groups make a deal with someone running for re-election: you vote for our bill, we will feature you in a thank-you ad.  I love it for progressive purposes, but not sure I will like it if the Repugs do it.

I don't know how effective they are though (0.00 / 0)
Remember the "Thanks Bob!" ads from USA Term Limits right before the 2008 election hit the full swing? Yeah, that didn't exactly help Bob Schaffer out too much.

They weren't really germane to the office (4.00 / 1)
Fine if he were running for re-election to the school board. Most small-C conservatives don't really want the Federal government involved in education at all, so it likely didn't even help him with his own base.

The point wasn't really the message I think, but to be able to run an ad that pumped up the name ID without triggering the FEC reporting requirements. Which was iffy logic anyway.

I think the idea behind the ad is nice, but I doubt it will have any large effect on the 2010 election.  I do think it has a small effect, however.  Without this ad, fewer people would even realize that the bill came up for a vote.  It is a small effort to counter the screamers from the other side and I'm happy to see them doing it.

this is just an ad to balance the damage ads against her in the district may be doing.  This is a loss the Republicans are smarting from and want it back.

Marky would also (0.00 / 0)
probably appreciate hearing from folks in her district -- if you want to call the Congresswoman's office today to let her know that you support her and her decision to vote yes for the American Clean Energy and Security Act, the Fort Collins district office number is 970-221-7110.

We also are doing a thank-you card for her (0.00 / 0)
