One Senator hand-picked by Bill Ritter, one was elected on the same blue wave as Barack. Both are on the newly announced Democratic Coward's Caucus™ that has promised to stall Barack Obama's overwhelmingly popular agenda:

"Leading the new group are Democratic Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Tom Carper of Delaware and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas... [O]thers joining the group are Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado, Mark Begich of Alaska, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Herb Kohl of Wisconsin, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut (newly bolded for emphasis-Ed.), Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Bill Nelson of Florida, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Mark Udall of Colorado, and Mark Warner of Virginia."
It should come as no surprise that right-wingers just love the newfound sense of purpose that these Democrat senators are showing:
Zappatero :: Both Colorado Senators on Democratic Traitor Caucus
Joe Scarborough (conservative Republican) was thrilled to hear about Bayh's new venture. Pat Buchanan (conservative Republican) was glad to hear it. Far-right blogs think this is a great idea. This should offer a fairly significant hint to Bayh about the value of this endeavor.

Bennet will be the first kicked out of his undeserved office. Hopefully Udall will learn something from him in time to start acting like a true Democrat....can it be that hard?

maybe Mark Udall can explain himself (4.00 / 1)
at DKos. I won't hold my breath......

here are statements (0.00 / 0)
from Udall and Bennet (by email press release:
Udall said: "The challenges facing our country are deep and serious. More than ever we need to get beyond ideological or partisan labels and find solutions. So I plan to be a pragmatic and independent voice in the Senate and in this new working group, for the good of all Coloradans."

At the meeting, some members acknowledged that such a large group was unlikely to agree on all major issues before the Senate. Yet the Moderate Dems are joined by a shared commitment to pursue moderate, mainstream and fiscally sustainable policies across a range of issues such as, health care reform, the housing crisis, educational reform, and energy policy.

Bennet said: "I want to work with President Obama to address the many difficult challenges facing our nation and Colorado. I look forward to meeting with a group that will set aside old habits and take new approaches to strengthening our economy, our schools and our health care system."

Neither Udall or Bennet get it (4.00 / 1)
They continue to search for "bipartisan", "pragmatic", "independent" policies and solutions.  The way they're going about it, they're validating right-wing, fringe, extremist policies and solutions.

Progressive policies are supported by a majority of Americans in every possible arena.  Udall wasn't elected to give Cons what they want.  He was elected to give Coloradans what they want.  Don't get me started on Bennet's closed-door selection.  That process was disgusting.

I'm glad to hear extremist Cons are supportive of their little club.  It will help frame their actions on dKos and SquareState the remainder of their terms.

Udall is the Senior Senator (4.00 / 1)
so why is he following the junior?

this stinks...

Mm. (4.00 / 1)
And this is good for Colorado ... how, exactly?

Y'all called 'em on EFCA yet?  Raise hell.

!@#$%!@#^&%##!!! (0.00 / 0)
Idiots don't get that they were elected (well one of 'em) on Obama's coat-tails, and that we specifically elected them (him) to help Obama enact his progressive policies-and Udall at least campaigned on Obama's promise of change.  NOW they're telling us that , essentially they're going to be working with the Republicans to prevent  any change at all.  B@stards!

Do I get to say "I told you so" now? (0.00 / 0)

Lost (4.00 / 1)
Lost... they have lost their way because they are following the worst example of getting to "power".

What we need to do is to visit their local office everyday until they learn that "bipartisanship" for Republicans means only this:

To us bipartisanship is making them agree with us after we have cleaned their clocks and beaten them, and that has to be what we are focused on

We start from a position of strength.  Don't squander that with remedies and bromides of "getting beyond ideologies" because it is ideology that makes the two parties different.

Do Udall and Bennet think that we are idiots?  The electorate in every single poll shows solid support for progressive and liberal public policies that is dimetrically opposite of what we have had under Republican rule for the last eight years.

Do Udall and Bennet want to move America forward with good public policies that will show that government can be a force for good?  Or will they stand in the way of progressive change simply because they are too stupid to realize who elected them and why they were elected?

Is power so important to them that they are willing to sacrifice the nation?

Simple answer (0.00 / 0)
to a bunch of good questions: yes.

I wasn't thrilled with Udall's candidacy.  The more I tried to interact with him as a constituent, the less impressed I became with him.  He's all about the Democratic Establishment power structure and not the people of his district or state.

Tell me how this is different than what "Sweatshop" would be doing.

Udall lied to me. (0.00 / 0)
Last August I participated in a Udall canvassing event in Westminster. Then Congressman Udall was there, and I made a point of having a word with him.

ME: "Good luck with your campaign, Congressman. One thing though. I'm not doing this so that you can go to Washington and be another Salazar."

UDALL: "That's not me. You know my record."

Outraged by Bennet and Udall (0.00 / 0)
Before going to SquareState I sent an email to both Bennet and Udall indicating my disappointment in their joining this group of 14!  Udall has a statement on his Senate website which glosses over the real truth of what he is doing.   I urge all readers of this blog to write to both of our senators and tell them what you think.   They won't read this - but they (their staff) might read the emails if they pour in.

I have called everyday (4.00 / 1)
Udall and Bennett have decided to be a new sort of Blue Dog. I am very worried that the Republicans are going to continue to hold up vital legislation that we have an opportunity to finally get passed.

I do not mind Udall and Bennett being a part of this group until they vote against fast tracking important legislation that will otherwise need 60 votes. I did not work my tail off both in person and online to get as many progressives elected as possible to have "moderate" Dems holdup the need for 60 votes to get anything passed. I am especially concerned that this group will use the words "fiscal responsibility" to keep us from passing comprehensive climate change legislation and health care reform.

I realize that this country is going into deep, deep debt, but investment in our future has never been this vital. Not only from an economic point of view but a social one. The agenda that President Obama has set forth is one that I believe in and it is the reason that I was such a passionate worker for his campaign. I worked for Mark Udall simply because of Barack Obama. He told me that he was behind the future President's agenda. I believed him and now I want  the coalition that I worked for to do what they promised me. That is to get behind this expensive but necessary agenda to move the country forward. We have defunded our country to the point of breaking. It is time reinvest in this country's future and our children's future. We will get the money back a hundred fold if the future generations have a health care system that they can rely upon and is efficient in cost and care and if they have a climate policy that allows for the earth to recover and flourish. We have some life altering changes ahead. It is an opportunity to finally move in the right direction. I say, help or get out of the way. It is time to hold these elected officials feet to the fire so that we can achieve great things now.

I just heard that (0.00 / 0)
Michael Bennett will be at the Wynkoop tomorrow at 6:30 pm. I am going and I am going to ask him about this and EFCA.

Please join us and be heard.

Salazar redux (4.00 / 1)
Udall is looking like a replay of Kenny-boy Salazar. Remember that K-low immediate sought Joe LIEberman as his mentor and danced to that tune for most of his (thankfully brief)Senate career. Doubtless he will spend the post-Obama years lurking in the corridors of power as a lobbyist.I certainly expected more of Udall but that's the way the DINO crumbles.

I love you guys (0.00 / 0)
I couldn't disagree with you more on this, but you're so damn feisty.

I'll just say it: I'm so shocked that Eldorado Springs Moderate Mark Udall is, in fact, a moderate. [/snark]

Seriously though, y'all are entertaining as hell. Keep on stirring up the barrel.

I think it comes (0.00 / 0)
from feeling so betrayed by Salazar.  Sure we knew he was a moderate, but there's moderate, and then there's the idiocy of centrism for centrism's sake.

I'm going to watch more of how these two vote than make any decision to write them off.

That's what you should be doing (0.00 / 0)
Voting record is what matters, not this perceived notion that Udall and Bennet are going to be steamrolling Obama's agenda just by joining this caucus.
