In the news round up below I mentioned the vacancy committee for HD49.
meeting:
The group will meet at 10 a.m. Jan. 17 at Allnutt Funeral Home, 650 W. Drake Road in Fort Collins.
Is this the death of representation for the citizens of HD49?  And, if the republicans wanted to continue the wingnut positions of Lundberg, I can't think of a better place to hold the meeting than at one called All Nut. [sic]

All joking aside, there are some serious issues for one of the appointment hopefuls, Ray Walter.  His campaign website uses the state of Colorado seal as a background image.  Did the republicans not learn anything from their Colorado Senate News use of the state seal?  If you recall, SoS Coffman had to issue a notice [pdf] of the official rules of the state seal.  According to state statute (24-80-902) , illegal use of the seal is a class 5 felony.  From the notice:

1. A facsimile of the State Seal may be used on letterhead by the Members in connection with their official duties.  "Official duties" may include commenting on policy issues, including expressing support or opposition for a statewide ballot issue, but it does not include expressing support or opposition for any candidate.

2. A facsimile of the State Seal - either in part, or in whole - may not be used for campaign purposes, unrelated to the Member's official duties.  In particular, a facsimile shall not be used on the Member's campaign materials, including a campaign website.  (Members should also be mindful of the limitations of section 1-45-117, C.R.S., concerning the use of public resources for campaign purposes.)

3. A facsimile of the State Seal may not be used - either in part, or in whole - on communications from or for a party caucus of the House or Senate.

4. A facsimile of the State should not be used - either in part, or in whole - for memorabilia and other objects such as caps, jackets, mugs, key chains, etc.  Exceptions may be made for objects used for strictly legislative purposes, such as Members' chairs in the chambers, but exceptions should be discussed in advance with the Office of the Secretary of State.  In addition, memorabilia items with the State Seal should not be given to spouses or family members.

Not sure how much clearer one can get.

Walter's website also has some interesting facts about his leadership.  In college he was frat president and in high school, class president.  Super!  Let us know how that seal thing works out, though.

I spoke to the Sos office to see if perhaps he wrote to request use of the seal.  The answer wasn't so much of yes he did or no he didn't.  More like, that's a big no-no.

And, yes, I saved copies of the website and the background image for posterity.

the hypocrisy of the anti-immigrant crowd (0.00 / 0)
It amazes me that anti-immigrant zealots don't at least try to use the English language correctly. To wit from Mr. Walter's Web site: Washington D.C., Wall Street, The Federal Reserve System, and Our Capitol at Denver are all either the titles of books or articles in newspapers or magazines, or they're theoretical concepts that haven't been incorporated into mainstream English as proper words or phrases. How do I know this? Mr. Walter's Web site listed all of these things in quotation marks.

thoughts on decisions made by people who don't empathize with my reality

Apparently they don't teach proper writing skills (0.00 / 0)
at whatever "College" he went to--where he was "Fraternity President".

It also says he was "approached to run for county commissioner". Such intrigue!
