For the record, Michael Bennet's pro-choice. He probably would have voted against the federal bailout but isn't sure whether he would've opposed the auto-industry rescue package. He doesn't have a problem with a regulatory change permitting guns in national parks, and he thinks it's time to consider increasing fees on mining companies, which currently operate under laws written 130 years ago.
However, on one of the most controversial issues expected to come before the U.S. Senate he'll soon join - the so-called union card check - Bennet said he doesn't have a position and wants to hear opinions from the "various constituencies" involved.
So now, thanks to Bill Ritter, we have another DLC-type Senator appointed while Colorado's electorate inexorably moves left. Failures of the Right are ignored by Democrats and are responded to with yet more more capitulation. The great weakness of our Democratic-ally elected Senator who's movin' on up is praised as a strength:
As to what kind of senator he might be, Bennet looked toward Salazar, who he said was effective because he "reflected the values of the people of the state and worked to create compromise and bridge partisan divides."
Yeah, the press and DC insiders love this kind of talk. But history -- both recent and long past -- shows it hasn't worked.
So it looks like we have another Blue Dog in the wings. The next thing I expect from Michael Bennet, after he announces he's joining Evan Bayh's conservative senate caucus, is him talking down that young upstart Barack Obama and his crazy, leftist plans for reviving our economy and getting our foreign policy house in order, and that just so happened to have been overwhelmingly endorsed by.......voters!
Count me among those who say Bill Ritter's pick of Michael Bennet to replace Ken Salazar, over many more qualified and experienced and electable candidates, is an epic fail.
