Newell holds a lead of 191 votes over former Republican Rep. Lauri Clapp after provisional ballot-counting concluded late Tuesday, both Democrats and Republicans said today.
Officials are computing whether that margin among some 60,000 total votes is small enough to trigger an automatic recount.
If all the results are in, what kind of high level math is needed to determine if a recount is needed? Colorado Law is at 0.5% Besides, these are the results from the Arapahoe county website:
Vote Count Percent
DEM - Linda M. Newell 30,339 50.18%
REP - Lauri Clapp 30,119 49.82%
Total 60,458 100.00%
Let me see, 50.18 minus 49.82 is what? uh, huh-huh. Math is hard, Beavis. Anyway, that comes to 0.36%. Also last time I checked, 339-119=220.
I suppose it's possible there was a typo in whatever press release went out by the county, but that doesn't explain solving that complex math problem.
BTW, I'll be on the Mario Solis-Marich show in a few minutes. Looks like our normal schedule now is every Wednesday at 4:30pm.
Update- Looks like I may be relying on old numbers. The district includes a sliver of Jefferson county which is reporting 71 votes for Newell and 96 for Clapp. But, the rocky updated its story as well.
Republican Lauri Clapp conceded the contest late Wednesday afternoon after a final count of provisional ballots gave Newell, a Democrat, a 191-vote lead. The final tally - 30,405 votes to 30,214 - is just outside the threshold needed for an automatic recount, and Clapp said she did not want to drag taxpayers through a lengthy and divisive process.
My counting adds up to 30410 and 30215, but it's possible Arapahoe and Jeffco even though they say 100% complete may not have updated their webpages with the most recent data. So, I fucked up. Sorry. However, looking at the percentage difference of these new numbers, one gets a .3151% difference. Last time I checked that's less than .5% so a recount is required. (C.R.S. 1-10.5-101.)
