Spoke with Morgan Carroll tonight about the coming legislative sessions, what bills she's working on to introduce, etc.  I'm not sure which she wants out in the ether yet, so I'm keeping my trap shut.

Saturday morning I met friends at the protest rally.  Here's a though provoking sign:

As far as I could tell, three counter protesters showed up, however folks were ready for them.

If you can't read the sign with the arrow it says, "With cavemen like these who needs dinosaurs?"  I have no idea what's with the sign that says "Christ hearts you"  Is that supposed to make everyone feel better when a whole bunch of his supposed followers said some other folks aren't entitled to the same rights as they are?

Then I spoke at a marijuana policy event.  Sitting on a panel discussing The Media and how to use it were Jason Salzman and Peter Marcus of the Denver Daily News.  The earlier panel had Denver city councilman Chris Nevitt and Majority Leader, Rep. Paul Weissmann.  Both discussed how to be effective at communicating with one's elected officials.

Afterward there was a fundraiser at the new lodo 8 Rivers.  I have to hand it to Mason and the rest of the folks.  This was a very well planned and executed one day event.

What did you do over the weekend?

Anti-8 Rally in Boulder (4.00 / 1)

Booooooring.  Funniest thing was watching all the Okies passing by on the Pearl Street Mall.

Best sign said:  "Regulate Markets not Love"

Ralphie is taller than me.  Or everyone else in Boulder is short.  I could never get a good shot that helped show the size of the crowd in Denver.

revolution from within

I was standing... (0.00 / 0)
on a war memorial and held my phone up high.  I took a bunch of pictures and picked the one that looked best.

I won the "worst dressed award", which isn't all that surprising at a gay rights rally, but c'mon, there were a bunch of Okies walking by as well...

Some photos from election day in Boulder... (4.00 / 2)

Oh, wait, that's not from election day...

I want to share some things wif you (0.00 / 0)
I updated my address when I voted in the primaries. Today at my old address, I rcvd an envelope confirming my address change. It had been ripped open and taped shut with industrial strength tape. I also rcvd my confirmation to be an election judge... at my old address.

But the real gem of the mailday was the package I rcvd from the same institute that brought you "The Anus is an Exit, Not an Entrance," containing my 2009 edition of the Luce (sic) Ladies calendar from the Clare Booth Luce Policy Institute. This year's theme is Pretty In Mink and features the same women in the same order as last year. Did you know that September is the month for Tranny Coulter? Each woman is wrapped in her own mink and painted up like a trollop.

They think its funny to be in your face about animal enslavement and slaughter as shameless displays of superior wealth.

Those women, they classy!

Prop. 8 Means that the Social Cons have peaked. (0.00 / 0)
Look, I know that the vote on Prop. 8 is bad news, but I'm really sensing a "last hurrah" vibe about the thing. First, back in 1992 when Colorado passed Amendment 2 there wasn't the same public awareness of the pain the vote caused the GLBT community. This time around, lots of people feel for the folks who had their marriages undone. The social climate is entirely different now. Second, in Romer v. Evans, 517 U.S. 620 (1996) the US Supreme Court voted 6-3 to overturn Amend. 2 because it violated the US Constitution's 14th Amend. equal protection clause. Prop. 8 has similar equal protection bugs, and its retrospective character highlights the problem. I strongly suspect that the social conservatives will be an increasingly marginalized segment of the population, and while they will still "stand athwart history shouting 'no,'" fewer and fewer people will take them seriously. Olim et hac memonisse et juvabit.

There is no elite, so take your place in the driver's seat.

I just can't believe it was retroactive (0.00 / 0)
how the fuck is did that happen?
