"Sequoia made an unfortunate mistake with a portion of Denver's absentee ballots that we produced and mailed,"
~ Sequoia Voting Systems spokeswoman Michelle Shafer

ABC 7 News

DENVER -- Thousands of ballots that went missing were never prepared because of a technical problem, the Denver Clerk and Recorder said Saturday.

More than 11,000 ballots went missing when the vendor in charge of printing the ballots, Sequoia Voting Systems, reported delivering 21,450 ballots to a Denver mail processing facility on Oct. 16, but the U.S. Postal Service said they only received 10,364 ballots that day.

In what other situation (0.00 / 0)
are a dozen thousand pieces of similar mail missing?

It's About 11,000 which are missing (0.00 / 0)
As far as we know, this is all that managed to be lost by this system.   In the House Districts, we've alerted our PCP's of the names of those who have been recorded as having had them sent and suggested that they all be called to be sure that they are received.  If not, we recommend that the voter go to the Denver election division on Mexico and request and cast a new one.

Incompetence a greater threat than malice. (0.00 / 0)
Denver and those 11,000 voters are critical to the outcome of the national election.  This screw up is catastrophic.  And, it appears to be a screw up.

How do we get it done now?  Time is running out.

I suspect that the contract with Sequoia probably disclaims all liability for this kind of thing as well.

So much for the abolition of the Election Commission solving the problem.

They are going out Monday (0.00 / 0)
Most voters will get them on Tuesday, because they are mostly going to people inside Denver County.

This is a serious f-up and Sequoia should be fired, but I don't think it will be "catastrophic." Way more ballots than that aren't going out until later in the week because people didn't apply for them until October.

Of course Sequoia should have been fired after 2006, and I'm not sure why they were given a second chance after that disaster.

I want to know (0.00 / 0)
on what basis was Sequoia paid?  Do we get half the money back because they didn't deliver over half the ballots on time?

I'm sure we can count on Sequoia ... (4.00 / 2)
... to FedEx the missing ballots to the voters affected, overnight, right?

I'm just grateful that this portion of the elections isn't in the hands of "inefficient government," when the private sector can do a "much better job."

Make sure your voter registration is up to date!

Government Does Some Things Better (0.00 / 0)
In his last book, Peter Drucker noted that he parted with his "Republican friends" and showed that some things are better done by government than for profit organizations.  Read Managing in the Next Society

Yeah, thank God for de-regulation (0.00 / 0)
I've been asking this question over and over of my friends and at blogs, what is a good economic reason to vote for McCain/Republicans?

While I listen to the symphony of crickets, I have some time to think about this for myself but I would genuinely appreciate someone please to tell me why a complete abandonment to de-regulation would ever not result in wild fluctuations and upheavals on most every level of society. Have deliberated models been run on what it would be like to have total market anarchy?

Every Election (0.00 / 0)
IIRC, every election there is some problem with Sequoia.
