Would Bennet Support Romanoff If He Won?

by: peacemonger

Fri Jul 16, 2010 at 02:50:26 AM MST

There was a fairly heated argument recently saying Bennet never said he would support Romanoff if Romanoff won the primary. I said he did say it -- I've heard him.

Here is a quote (I promised I would find one for Peter).

Colorado Statesman: "Is it safe to assume that, if Andrew Romanoff wins the primary, that you will support him?"

Michael Bennet: "Of course."

Found in the July 9th InnnerView of Bennet in the Colorado Statesman found here:   http://www.coloradostatesman.c...

Now, will someone argue what "is", is? Of course.

thank you
obviously many of us had been asking for a long while why this quote didn't exist.  Thanks for showing that it now does.

Sorry Michael Bennet, but I'm a real person too

I think it depends which echo chamber you're camping in.
I hadn't heard Andrew say it as early as everyone here claimed to. I think it is obvious they are both committed to any Democrat winning this seat.

It's interesting watching the GOP eat each other alive on television commercials.

My opinions here do not reflect any organization or group with which I may be affiliated.

videos work in echo chambers
that's the issue here actually.  There were several taped events in which Romanoff mentioned it.  People showed those as a source.  There were none for Bennet (at least not publicly available tapes)

Sorry Michael Bennet, but I'm a real person too

Just Words..Unless he donates remaining campaign funds to Romanoff
Romanoff has said many times he will support Bennet.

And now Bennet said it once, somewhat grudgingly.

The acid test of a man who claims to be a lefty Democrat, but whose positions we really don't know
(because "never elected" = No Record)...

"Is"

WILL BENNET AGREE in advance, now, to donate all his remaining millions in campaign funds to Romanoff
After the primary
, If Andrew wins?

Since he apparently claims not to have had previously a plan to run for any office, before his "appointment", He will surely not have any use for those funds if he loses on August 10th.

I could believe Bennet "if" he agrees now to do that.

This would have a very positive effect on Bennet's campaign.

He can't donate, but good points
Legally he can only give to charity, return to the donors or transfer to another federal race (his own). I think he could give to the state party - maybe somebody who knows better on that can clarify - and then it could be used to support the Deomcratic nominee. If he really wanted to go all-in he could get on the phone, tell people he's returning it and ask them to give it to Romanoff.

I agree that Bennet was not exactly running to say he'd support Romanoff. More like a reporter asked him point blank and he couldn't exactly say no. Romanoff on the other hand has said it repeatedly at everything from his small events to the county assemblies and his state convention speech. Guess it's the difference between a guy who has spent 15 years building the Democratic party and a guy who finds it annoying he has to justify himself to the voters. He just comes across like a guy who thinks Hey, I was appointed, I'm in charge, so just sit there and let the experts like me handle things - I don't need to explain myself to you.
