"The selection of Governor Palin is an insult to women.  She has obviously been chosen to appeal to female voters, but she lacks both the experience and policy positions to serve as Vice-President of the United States."

"The announcement of Governor Palin's selection on John McCain's 72nd Birthday highlights the fact that the Vice-President must be qualified to step into the Presidency from Day One.  Sarah Palin is a 2-year governor with zero foreign policy experience whose former position was mayor of a town of 9,000."

"To assume that women will simply support Governor Palin because of her gender is insulting.  In fact, the Governor is out of step with mainstream America on women's economic and social issues.  For example, Governor Palin embraces John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade and protecting a women's right to make her own health care decisions."

"Governor Palin has also enthusiastically supported the Bush-McCain doctrine of standing up for Big Oil and failed economic policies that has led to a struggling economy."

"American women need quality health care for themselves, economic security for their families, an energy plan that will give us energy independence, and a plan to bring our troops home from Iraq responsibly.

"Barack Obama will give us the change we need, while John McCain and Sarah Palin will give us more of the same."

Trouble brewing (0.00 / 0)
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/a...

At TPMMuckraker we've been on the Palin/Trooper-gate story for a while. And we've just reported that the investigation by the state legislature is scheduled to report its findings in the first couple days of November.

This is a perilous story for Palin and McCain. I flagged some of the details earlier in the day. But this is the kind of story, the kind of investigation, where it is highly unlikely that Palin hasn't made public false statements about her involvement in what happened.

Reasons (0.00 / 0)
I actually think there are two reasons why McCain chose Palin, and that "to appeal to female voters" isn't one of them. At least not to female Clinton voters. McCain's team would have realized Palin's hard-right views would be well-known in just a few days, so any bounce among those voters would be very much transitory.

But they did know that the surprise factor would provide a much bigger media spark than Pawlenty or Romney would, thus knocking news discussions (even in liberal talk radio and blogs) off the subject of the successful convention and Obama acceptance. And they knew that this was their best chance to get Dobson and his friends on board. Those guys will now be willing to fund-raise and get out the vote. Shouldn't be enough to win, but without an enthusiastic Dobson, McCain has an even lesser chance.

By the way, I get the feeling Obama got advice, considered it, and ultimately made the decision himself for Biden while McCain, on the other hand, just did what his Rove-clone handlers told him to do.

Consider John McCain at 72 years old now, having gone through cancer twice.  McCain's voting record says that he would make his female successor earn less as president.

revolution from within

Having known about the trooper scandal... (0.00 / 0)
...I knew that this shit would blow up sooner or later.  My brother knew about it, having said to me that McCain picked someone who had only been Governor for a year and a half and ALREADY had a scandal.

If You Listen to Fools, the Mob Rules!!!!

Gov Palin's selection is an insult to women.
