Jared just finished his victory speech after Joan Fitz-Gerald called to concede.  He was very gracious in thanking Joan and Will.  Joining him on stage were state senator Polly Baca, Jared's mother, Jared's partner Marlon, and Congresswomen Degette joined him on stage promising a spot on the Ways and Means committee.  I'm not sure how concrete of a promise that was though.

Jared has entered the room.  But where is he?

Off to the left is a little friend of mine who feels there's too much noise.

Congrats to Jared (4.00 / 2)
I think we've got one hell of a Congressman now to represent us.

about Committee Assignments (4.00 / 2)
1) it is possible DeGette has a commitment from Pelosi and Hoyer about Ways and Means.  And given how generous Jared has been to others in Colorado he would have strong backing from state party
2) a logical committee for him to be on, however, is Education and Labor - he has served, after all, as a member of the Colorado State Board of Education, and is quite familiar with education issues.   The problem has been that Miller seems to have been able to keep off people who know a good deal if he thinks they might undercut his control:  this term Tim Walz, who is VP of freshman class, begged to get on the committee, but perhaps because he had just come out of the classroom, for some reason he did not get on it, even though there were a batch of freshmen (Maizie Hirono of HA, John Sarbanes of MD, Dave Loebasck, of Iowa, Jason Altmire of PA, Joe Courtney of CT, Joe Sestak of PA, Phil Hare of IL, John Yarmuth of KY, and Carol Shea-Porter of NH, while Yvette Clark of NY joined the Committe) -  not clear that there will be any openings, since as far as I know none of the members is retiring, and only Shea-Porter (who has a rematch with Jbe Bradley) is considered to be in any jeopardy (Yarmuth faces Anne Northrup again, but after she lost badly in run for Gov is considered a damaged brand)).

I would like to see Jared on Education - he is knowledgeable, and he and I have talked about education.   We'll see how it plays out after November 4.

Peace.

Well hello teacherken (4.00 / 2)
Nice to see you on this blog.

And I agree, Jared would make a fine addition to the Education and Labor committee. And I would love to see him on one of your education panels at the next Netroots Nation.

I am very, very, very happy (4.00 / 2)
this morning. :)

Way to go, Jared. I may not live in your district but I feel confident you will represent all of Colorado ethically and honestly.

Congratulations.

This makes me very happy (4.00 / 1)
Congrats, Jared!

Now, if we can just fight the canard that he only won because he "bought" his seat, and/or that there's something sleazy about having made a fortune during the dot com boom.  Really pisses me off.

Liberals aren't supposed to have money.  We're supposed to sweat blood, wear our fingers to the bone working for a cause, and live in hovels.
