Finally the righties have something legitimate to complain about Mark Udall.  Yesterday he missed a key vote that could have been the one that tipped the scale to keep congress in session to work on energy issues.  Yep, looks like a lot of congresscritters just wanted to call it a day (or month) and go home.

Udall spokeswoman Taylor West said the Boulder County lawmaker was on his way back to Washington at the time and that the vote was called with only 10 minutes' notice. Udall asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to delay the vote without success, and the resolution passed by one vote, 213-212.
...
West said that her boss would send a letter to Pelosi today objecting to the fact that the vote wasn't delayed long enough for him to make it from the Washington airport to the Capitol.

Sure, the righties are going to squawk and squawk about this one.  But, late by 10 minutes?  How can one legitimately say Udall doesn't care about this issue, when he was 10 minutes away?  Sure it looks bad, and it gives Schaffer something to help sink his teeth into Mark Udall's ankle, but 10 minutes?  How late has Bob Schaffer been to working on renewable energy issues?  A lot longer than 10 minutes.

way to go Nancy! (4.00 / 3)
unbelievable that Pelosi did this.

SoapBlox - the new blog framework.

The scheduling and vote totals (4.00 / 1)
are too cute, that's for sure.

While Nancy is playing games, record numbers of energy shut-offs are happening, investments in renewable energy are waiting on tax credit extensions, and nothing meaningful to counter pro-drilling rhetoric is getting done.

I don't wonder why Congress has a 91% disapproval rating, do you?

Bottom line is (4.00 / 1)
This was not the most important vote in the history of Congress as Wadhams would spin it. If Mark had gotten in under the wire, Pelosi would have whipped another Dem to vote for adjournment, because the leadership really wants their vacation to start early (it's actually not supposed to happen until August 11th according to the officially-published calendar).

Also indisputable is that while it sucks Mark couldn't vote on this, it doesn't change his record of being in favor are repeatedly voting for comprehensive energy reform that would lower gas prices for Coloradans. Schaffer's record is also indisputable-- he's a big oil guy with a big oil voting record, and got a $250,000 golden parachute from Aspect Oil to run for the Senate.

Mark has a day job and a Senate campaign to juggle, but Bob gets to campaign full-time thanks to the largess of his oil company benefactor.

Decades late (4.00 / 2)
While Mark may have missed this 1 vote, how late is Schaffer to the debate? He's been AWOL from renewable energy as a public servant until it becomes politically popular for him. He's running on a record of standing up for Big Oil over the people of Colorado.

This is NOT legitimate! (3.00 / 1)
Like you said later in the post, he was rushing to get there, and missed it by 10 minutes. From what I read, it seems that the vote was supposed to be later, and Pelosi decided to move it up without telling him.  He scrambled to get back to DC and missed, even when asking for time to delay.

You seem to know that this is bullshit.  Don't call it legitimate, because it's NOT LEGITIMATE!!!!!

If you call it legitimate, you effectively legitimize BOBS and The Wad.

I need to stop, because I've used the word Legitimate way too much in this post.

Only he didn't miss the vote as it turns out (4.00 / 1)
The vote he missed was not for adjournment, but to set a date window for adjournment subject to another vote.

That vote was today and Mark Udall voted against adjournment.

More here. (0.00 / 0)

emocratic Rep. Mark Udall voted with Republicans today to keep Congress in session until lawmakers consider a crucial energy bill.

...

Wednesday's resolution called for Congress to adjourn by Thursday, Friday or Saturday of this week and return to Washington Sept. 8. Trujillo said in order for that resolution to be official, there had to be a final adjournment motion sometime this week.

That vote came today.

"I think the House should continue trying to pass legislation to improve our national energy policies," Udall said, in a statement inserted into the Congressional Record.

"Regrettably, so far our repeated efforts to do that have been thwarted by the refusal of our friends on the other side of the aisle to support any of the proposals that have been considered."
