Aaron's review of David's new book is below.  I've only just gotten through the 4th chapter about the DFH war protest, which was fascinating.  David will be speaking and signing copies of the book next Tuesday at the Boulder Bookstore at 7:30pm.  On Wednesday he'll be at the Tattered Cover on Colfax (not in lodo), also starting at 7:30pm.  After both of these events Drinking Liberally hosts will be taking David out for a drink at a local watering hole of his choosing.

To further facilitate discussions of the book, we wanted to do a live-blogging session to ask David questions.  Unfortunately his travel schedule doesn't make that possible.  So, let's call this a non-live live-blogging event.  In the comments below, please post your questions to Mr. Sirota about this book or anything else.

Aaron and I will also be talking about the book and our Q&A session on the Mario Solis-Marich show on AM760 today and Monday, both times at 5:30pm.

johne :: An uprising of questions for David Sirota
I'll start off.  Aaron describes you as being both an insider and outsider in his review, but in our conversations you say that's not correct.  How is that or at what level do you consider the insiders in the D.C. beltway?  Is MoveOn an insider?  Markos?  Stoller?

Another question.  I recently spoke with Politics West editor Stephen Keating about the "Gang of Four" blog.  You're one of those four, though I was asking about Ross Kaminsky's involvement.  What sort of agreement do you have with the Denver Post to write there?  Are there any restrictions on what you write?  Any editing process?  You've have arguments back and forth through this blog with both Kaminsky and in the past with David Harsanyi.  Harsanyi stopped writing there for a time but is now back.  What happened there (note I was one of the folks attacking Harsanyi's silly fact-less assertions at the time)?

State Level Blogs (4.00 / 1)
How can State level blogs provide a better support structure for the uprising?

To find the resources we need to be sustainable, we are always thinking about funding models. Are there things we should be seeking or avoiding?

Good question (0.00 / 0)
Aaron - good question. I think state level blogs that are most helpful to the uprising are those that focus most of their attention on state and local politics. This is the subject of my last newspaper column.

In terms of funding, it's a tough question that not only blogs are confronting, but the whole media is confronting. I'd say the more grassroots the funding base, the more independent the media in question - whether blogs or otherwise - can be. That means never being shy about asking readers to contribute to the funding of the site.

John's Questions (0.00 / 0)
To answer your questions:

- "Insider" suggests - nay, declares - that one primarily works on the inside, with the approval of fellow insiders. I'd say that a quick reading of anything I write should make pretty clear that I am not an "insider." Yes, I certainly have knowledge of how things work on the inside - but my goal is not to appease, protect or satisfy the inside.

- PoliticsWest asked me to contribute when I feel like it - there's no other parameters than that. They don't edit what I write at all. I'm not sure why Harsanyi stopped and started - you'll have to ask him.

I'm almost finished with the Minutemen chapter.  Did you have any trouble getting yourself invited to tag along with them?  How did that conversation go?

Another question.  I assume Colorado does not allow fusion voting, correct?

revolution from within

I had the same Colo question (0.00 / 0)
I've never even heard of the concept, so I'm leaning towards no, but don't know for sure.  It sounds like something that would be positive to implement here.

No and no (0.00 / 0)
No, it wasn't hard to get in touch with and tag along with the Minutemen. They want media attention and so they were pretty friendly in terms of giving me access.

Colorado does not allow fusion right now - but I've heard rumors that there may be a bill to try to re-legalize it in an upcoming legislature.
