The 2nd rule of blogxygen says that one shouldn't link to silly little neo-cons who think none of us notice they're lying their butts off, thus drawing other's attention to their blather. The 5th rule of blogxygen is that there may be times when the claims are that outrageous as many people possible should see the neo-con electronically depantsed. (The first rule of blogxygen submits we should not tell the other side about this idea, but in this case, I'm thinking the 5th rule is more important.)
BTW, this is the same idiot, that the Denver Post's new media site, let post twice about this topic here and here.
So I'd first like to draw your attention to this passage.
Riley then moves on to try to taint Schaffer with the unpopular Tom DeLay, mentioning that DeLay had helped Ben Fitial become Speaker and mentioning an aide of DeLay's who "was later mentioned in plea agreements...involving Abramoff." What any of this has to do with Schaffer's friendship with and endorsement of Benigno Fitial is beyond my grasp.
Tom Delay was one of Benigno Fitial's best friends in the US Congress. Of course, Ben was the one who got the CNMI Congress to hire Jack Abramoff. Benigno was then subpoenaed to testify what his dealings were with Jack Abramoff. Furthermore, indicted and resigned congressman Tom Delay was also Bob Schaffer's congressional majority leader. BTW, Benigno's last job was as vice president of the major sweat shop operator on the island, Tan Holdings. So, I think Bob Schaffer's dealing with these two crooks, calls into question just how corrupt is Bob Schaffer? I also don't think it's a far stretch of the imagination that good 'ol Ben might have a problem telling the truth when it comes to "friends" like Bob Schaffer.
Next, there's this outrage:
One of the most objectionable and telling pieces of Riley's "reporting" was his repetition of a left-wing blog's claim that Schaffer's endorsement letter was on official "congressional letterhead."
Oh noes, it can't be true if a lefty blogger said it. Ross goes on to complain that official Congressional letterhead doesn't look like what Bob Schaffer used in his endorsement ad for Benigno's CNMI governor race. The Denver Post also never used the word "original", just "letter" and "head". Now, what would you call a letter that has an image of the US capitol building and the words "Congressman Bob Schaffer", at the top? Psst, Ross, the proper answer would be letterhead and congressional.
Schaffer's endorsement letter was not on official congressional letterhead
But later Ross, does actually agree with me.
So, where were we?
Fitial was indeed endorsed by at least two other Republicans
Thanks for reminding me. Fitial was indeed endorsed by congressman Don Young (R-AK), and congressman John Doolittle (R-CA). Both are still under investigation for their ties to Jack Abramoff.
Fitial pleaded with the House Republicans: "Please do not kill the poor people of the CNMI by allowing federalization legislation to pass."
One should note however that in Fitial's version of a dictionary, the definition of "people" means sweatshop owners and vibrant sex trade industry.
Next Ross seems to salivate when he says Bob Schaffer is a, "dedicated public servant".
then:
Benigno Fitial and Bob Schaffer endorsed and supported each other because they share views of the proper role of government in society and of the importance of a free-market economy. They are men committed to the "service" aspect of public service. Fitial, in describing his endorsement of Bob Schaffer, called him "the most honest man I have ever met in government" and noted that "nobody who knows Schaffer could conceive of his being involved in anything improper."
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
But next week, stay tuned for:
This series will continue with a rebuttal of Mike Riley's third hit-piece against Bob Schaffer, including laying out the massive corruption of anti-CNMI forces inside the Clinton Administration
In other words, we should ignore all the corruption on this side, because those guys trying to stop them were dirty too and got investigated...by the same republicans.
