The AG's argument is that since there was State money involved and there was the controversy about climate change e-mails last year it is worth the States time to look and see if there is any fraud involved. This completely ignores the fact that the British government looked into the e-mail controversy and found there was no actual issue there.
This won't matter to "the Cooch" though since it is a transparently political effort to discredit the science behind one of the most important problems facing the human species. One has to wonder how much money will be spent to investigation a total of $484, 875 in grants. Especially at a time when the Commonwealth is running a 1.16 billion dollar budget deficit.
That of course is not the full extent of the "Cooch's" right-wing wackiness,. He is also handing out his own version of the State seal. It appears that the bare breast of Vitus as she stands over the vanquished body of Tyrannis is insufficiently modest. He has had his political PAC pay for redesigned seal pins for his folks to wear. I am sure the "Cooch" would fit right in with the Iranian cleric who thinks immodest dress caused the Icelandic volcano, we can't be having eruptions in VA, no can we?
This is what where the difference between major political parties is stark. You don't see Democrats worrying about covering drawn breasts, or trying to place literacy barriers in the way of felons who want to get their right to vote back. You do not see Democrats spending state funds trying to gin up a new controversy on what is settled science.
There are a great many weaknesses in many of the national and state level elected Democrats, but for all those faults we should not lose sight of who is worse. The Republican Party ran the "Cooch" and his partner in crime Gov. Tim Kane as moderates of their party. It is to be hopped it was merely a politically expedient lie, because if this is what passes for moderation in the Republican Party we can only fear what the hard liners might be like.
We must stay on top of the Democratic politicians, always insisting that they move away from the black hole that conservatism has become in this country. It is a battle that will be filled with many instances of back-sliding and disappointment, but in the end, electing them is a balance between trying to enact a liberal agenda and trying to keep the Republicans who are embodied in the "Cooch" and Gov. Kane out of positions of power.
