Sen. David Vitter - Bodine-ism Victim Of The Week

by: Bill Egnor AKA Something The Dog Said

Mon May 03, 2010 at 07:38:08 AM MST

A quick hit from the Republican Bodine-ism files. The Hill newspaper is reporting on their blog that Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) is insisting the White House continue to allow new oil leases in the Gulf, even though his state is about to be ravaged by millions of gallons of crude oil.

Sen. Vitter (infamous for being at the same time a family values Republican and a known client of at least two separate prostitution rings) said the following on Fox News:

"I don't think that there's any argument that we should just start shutting down activity now, or even start shutting down new activity that's planned. Clearly there have got to be changes made because of this incident. But we certainly shouldn't start shutting things down."

Bill Egnor AKA Something The Dog Said :: Sen. David Vitter - Bodine-ism Victim Of The Week
It is shocking how dumb Republicans can be. The only reason that the whole "Drill, Baby, Drill" slogan got any traction was the combination of $4.00 a gallon gasoline and no major spills (plenty of little ones) in recent memory. The twenty years between the Exxon Valdese and today had dimmed the memory of what crude oil could do if released into the environment. The thing is that Bodine-ism does not allow for new information or changing opinions to be assimilated. The world is the same everyday and what was a good idea once remains a good idea forever.

Sen. Vitter is a great example of Republicans who suffer from Jethro Bodine-ism. He has a program that he has been given and has so little knowledge or self-awareness that he is willing to spout his party line, even in the face of a disaster. If you don't know anything then it is easy to say we should go full steam ahead with more exploratory drilling. After all, just because we don't know what happened doesn't mean it could happen again. At least it doesn't to a Bodine-ism sufferer.

The floor is yours.
