Glenn Beck POUTRAGED over Nazi comparisons made by people who are not Glenn Beck

by: MinistryOfTruth

( - promoted by Fong)

Yesterday, Glenn Beck expressed POUTRAGE that anyone would compare something to Nazi Germany, that is, anyone not named Glenn Beck.

When Democrat Jared Polis (CO-2) compared Arizona's new "Breathing while Latino" law ( as Fox's Shep Smith calls it ) to the Nazi tactic of demanding papers be presented at all times or face arrest, Glenn Beck started to cry.

Glenn Beck:     "Are you comparing the systematic cold blooded extermination of millions of Jews to America making sure that people are here legally?

No, Glenn Beck, you moron. Jared Polis is comparing the law that required that anyone suspected of being a Jew in Nazi Germany must show documentation or face imprisonment to the new Arizona law that requires anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant to show their documentation or face imprisonment.

MinistryOfTruth :: Glenn Beck POUTRAGED over Nazi comparisons made by people who are not Glenn Beck
Remember last week when Glenn Beck called our own Kos a Nazi?

Nope, that went right down the memory hole.

"The hate is flowing in America"

~ Quoth Glenn Beck, who has no idea how that hatred started, and only sees it when it is possibly aimed at Conservatives. Brown people, poor people, women and anyone who is not white do not count.

Of course, Glenn Beck has called people he disagrees with Nazi's plenty of times, but, of course, "It Doesn't Count If You Are Republican".

Beck invokes Nazis to attack worker ID cards: "It was only one of the first things that Hitler did"

Beck continues long history of invoking Nazis by comparing Fox to the Jews during the Holocaust

Godwin's Law should be renamed Glenn Beck's law

The links above document just a mere fraction of the instances where Beck has compared the actions of others to Nazi's. It is only when points of view he agrees with are compared to Nazi's that Glenn Beck musters the POUTRAGE necessary to doublethink himself out of his own, reckless actions.

Godwin's Law dictates that the first person to compare anything to Nazi's has lost the argument. In most cases, I would agree with this. But NOT when the comparison is true. Torture, spying on citizens, demanding papers be presented, all Republican ideas, all Nazi policies.

For a real look into how close the GOP has come to embracing some Nazi's policies and rhetoric, just take a look at this . . .

Jewry is the cancer in Germany and it is eating our Republic. And it was designed to eat the Republic. To progress past the Republic. ......... It is big government - it's a socialist utopia. And we need to address it as if it is a cancer. It must be cut out of the system because they cannot co-exist. And you don't cure cancer by - well, I'm just going to give you a little bit of cancer. You must eradicate it. It cannot co-exist.

And did Goebells write this so Hitler could say it? No, I just changed Progressive with Jewry ( I am descended from Polish Jewish Holocaust victims myself ), America with Germany, and Constitution with Republic. Goebells didn't write this for Hitler, but Roger Ailes might have wrote it for Glenn Beck.

Yeah, Markos was totally out of line when he called Beck's eliminationist rhetoric what it is, eliminationist rhetoric.

So, here is a fun idea, whenever Glenn Beck or any other Republican starts in with their Corporatist, Authoritarian, religiously fundamentalist bullcrap, demand to see their documentation that proves they are an American citizen, ESPECIALLY their birth certificates. If they fail to provide all the documents you demand and they can not prove on the spot that they are American citizens, ask them how it feels to be discriminated against, just like Republicans in Arizona have done to people who might be suspected of being NOT WHITE. Maybe they will learn something (unlikely, but there is a chance.) And, if you live in Arizona, call the police and place the paperless offender under citizens arrest until the authorities arrive.

Arizona sure is putting the AZ in Nazi. Glenn Beck, 4/26/2010

I didn't say it, Glenn Beck did.

Tips for Godwin forgive me, and us
But there is a MAJOR difference in Godwin's Law and actually doing Nazi stuff like torture, isn't there?

A bit of trivia

Godwin's Law
Ok, while I agree with the idea that the Arizona law is about the biggest mockery of a legislation I've seen in a while, I am all for enforcing Godwin's law on Polis.  I think that Beck's use of Nazi this and Hitler that makes me want to force feed him a few history books, but it doesn't mean we get to do the same thing.  We are liberals, we can be above this kind of base mouth breathing argument.  I hate that the metaphor seems to be the only way of illustrating how horrible something can be.  Why is that we cannot merely say that the Arizona Legislature has committed an offense against the constitution of the United States, centuries of jurisprudence and an affront to human dignity?  Thats not enough?  We now have to compare every thing that we disagree with to a single period in history?  Good grief.  I say, "Congressman Polis, I disagree with the need to use Nazi's to illustrate how horrible this law is."  Glenn Beck, I'd suggest you should take a few classes with actual historians.  The big difference is that Jared Polis is a Congressman.  I'd suggest that he act like one.  If Beck wants to act like an oversized child that complains everytime he is required to actually learn and understand facts, well, he's on TV, let him.

I am strongly inclined to agree with you
on this matter, dear song.

Having just moved to Polis's district (Lafayette in Boulder County) I would have a problem with this too, if it were not for the fact that the AZ does smack heavily of a bavarian accented "Vy don't joo show me ein papers".

My point is, when people on the left called Bush a Nazi it was because he tortured people. To death.

Torture and Papers
I don't disagree that the points are not somewhat valid as a matter of comparison.  I think its a fair intellectual exercise that we debate how a policy is similar to Nazi Germany or how a situation is similar to the Weimar Republic.  I just think that to oversimplify it to a rhetorical statement is the part that pisses me off.  I think to make a comparison is one thing, to use Nazis as metaphor and hyperbole is to diminish the real threat.  While no one policy makes one a Nazi, we should be vigilant to policies and legislation that are an affront to the constitution and our basic ethics as Americans.
