In the fever swamps of the right, where Mitt Romney is ahead in the polls and the duly elected President of the United States of America is a Muslim, Kenyan Socialist, some say the president's two wonderful, beaming children are not special:
Most Americans agree that a president's children should not be used as pawns in a political fight. But to go so far as to make the safety of the president's children the subject of an attack ad is repugnant and cowardly," White House spokesman Jay Carney said.
In the new Web site and ad, the NRA asks why the Obama kids, Sasha and Malia, have Secret Service protection when most American kids go to school and have no gunmen overseeing their safety in class.
This poor attempt at ginning up the gun issue also shows how deep those "family values" are that Republicans always talk about. (Hint, they're not.)
Actually, the president's kids are special and deserve every protection we can give them, whether the NRA thinks so or not.
