Yea!
Hawaii Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz (D), who was yesterday named to fill the Senate seat vacated by the death of Sen. Daniel Inouye (D), wants to tackle an issue that has largely disappeared from Washington's political agenda in recent years - climate change:
"For me, personally, I believe global climate change is real and it is the most urgent challenge of our generation," Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz (D), whom Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie (D) tapped for the seat, said in brief comments Wednesday.
Of course, it'll take more than one gutsy, environmentally conscious Democrat to make up the Republican Luddites like James Inhofe of Oklahoma and anti-environmental Billionaires like the Koch Brothers.
Maybe our own Senators Bennet and Udall will show some of that same backbone as Hawaii's newest senator and make action on cleaning up the environment a priority.
This would be good for America, good for our economy, and good for the entire world. And it is time America took some responsibility for its environmental actions. |
