| In the US Senate Republicans abused the process and abused our democracy all in the act of obstructing our duly elected Democratic president.
Democrats are now moving to reform (I say they should eliminate) the filibuster, an anachronistic, anti-democratic sledge hammer used by stubborn and ignorant senators, Democrats and Republicans alike, to prevent the progress of this nation on civil rights, slavery, economic justice and budgetary common sense.
Senator Tom Harkin says:
The way it's going it's going to get worse and worse and worse on this filibuster. Quite frankly I think it's unconstitutional. I think the filibuster rule in the Senate is inherently unconstitutional.
Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren says:
If someone objects to a bill or a nomination in the United States Senate, they should have to stand on the floor of the chamber and defend their opposition.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says:
As a consequence of unprecedented obstructionism during the last Congress, the filibuster was used more in two years than it had been in the 1950s, 60s and 70s combined. This is unacceptable.
Senator Tom "The Bold Udall Senator" Udall says:
There has been an abuse of rules ... we need to change the way we do business to solve the problems which face us.
Republican Obstructionist Senator Tom Coburn threatened more obstruction if Democrats remove their primary obstruction tool.
Republican Obstructionist Senator Mitch McConnell lied through his teeth to justify Republicans' continued obstructionism by use of the filibuster.
Senate Republicans cannot be trusted to follow senate rules properly or to fully debate issues in good faith. |
