Michael Bennet votes against food stamp funding for poorest

by: Zappatero

He sure does make those tough decisions, where somehow the big guy always wins and the little guy loses:
The Senate overwhelmingly rejected a bid to preserve some $4.5 billion in food stamps funding, as part of the massive farm bill, on Tuesday.

The amendment to keep that spending in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, offered by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), failed 33 to 66. Sixty votes were needed to pass.

Gillibrand had hoped to prevent food aid cuts in the $969 billion bill by trimming the guaranteed profit for crop insurance companies from 14 to 12 percent and by lowering payments for crop insurers from $1.3 billion to $825 million.

Vote here.

Bipartisanship-y fail
Add another one to the pile.

If he won't propose and promote progressive policies, that's fine by me.  He doesn't have to do so.  He's his own person and I can evaluate him accordingly.

But when we get fed a constant diet of pro-bipartisanship-y gruel and told how awesome it is, I would certainly like to see some effort to bring Republicans over to the Democratic position once in a while.  Bipartisanship to Sen. Bennet and other corporatists that we have to agree with them.  If that's what folks want, that's what folks get (obviously not you, Zapp).
