Bipartisanship - Senate Style

by: Zappatero

Senator Charles Grassley from Iowa spoke his mind via the Twitter today and called President Obama "stupid" for highlighting the activist tendencies of the Roberts Court:

Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Because American ppl are not stupid as this Ex-prof of Constitutional law
(Untwitterfied by me.)

This is the same United States Senator that claimed the health care reform law instituted "death panels" that would "pull the plug on grandma".

And this is the mindset with whom Democratic senators like our very own Michael Bennet and Mark Udall yearn to achieve "bipartisanship".

This bipartisanship they strive for, and that is so esteemed by their media transcribers, is politically stupid. It is naive to think you can negotiate with these congenital liars and legislative saboteurs. The people don't want it. And if you pass a mediocre law, it's still mediocre no matter how many from each side voted for it.

When they are given mandates and majorities, Republicans execute with ruthless skill. When Democrats were given those in 2008, they negotiated them away and became weak and defensive in the process. It's a shocking repudiation of bipartisanship that both sides do not do that - though shocking only to Democrats in Washington, DC who will almost certainly keep up the quest for bipartisanship with people like Republican Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa - a liar and hypocrite.
