Why We Lose... (and Why We won't Make that Mistake Again in CD6)

Democrats: We all have one general thing in common.  We all believe that our point of view is the most logical.  However; we also believe that everyone else has a point of view that makes sense to them.

Based on that understanding, we try to make everything as fair as possible.  This thing separates us from the other Party.  The effect of this though, while noble in principal; is that we destroy each other,(ourselves), at almost any given opportunity.

The Republicans may be more than a little crazy on policy, and lot sanctimonious on politics: but they get one fundamental thing right. When it comes to the best option to win a district they unite around the best candidate... (the current Presidential primary excepted).  This is how they took the House from us in 2010.

As Democratic constituents of Colorado's Sixth Congressional District we find ourselves with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn something from our opponents.

tom_joade :: Why We Lose... (and Why We won't Make that Mistake Again in CD6)

Go with the best candidate; and make sure that we are unified in our support of she or he.

In the summer of last year Colorado House Representative Joe Miklosi began his campaign to give the residents of CD6 a representative who would put our interests above Special Interests (to borrow a phrase from Senator Morgan Carroll).  Joe immediately received the endorsements of nearly every member of the Democratic State Assembly caucus.  He has campaigned relentlessly since.

At that time the Sixth District was a pretty uphill battle for a Democrat.  I have watched Joe's campaign for some time now, wondering if he would abandon the daunting task.  Yet Joe has remained committed; Believing that the goal was worth the incredible volume of work required.

In December of 2011 the Colorado State Supreme Court delivered it's final ruling on Colorado's new Congressional boundaries.  The map they created rendered Joe's district one of the most competitive districts in the entire country.  Democrats began to see the opportunity they had.

Around this time the many loyal supporters of former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff began to make calls for his entry into the race.  Speaker Romanoff immediately made the determination that his one-time Agenda Director, and hardworking friend Joe Miklosi was, not only the the Democrat best positioned to defeat Mike Coffman, but also the Representative in the United States Congress we all deserve.

He immediately endorsed Joe and gave him his full support.

As my fellow Democrats I urge you to follow Speaker Romanoff's example; Rally behind Joe Miklosi, the Congressman we deserve. For our sake as Democrats, Coloradans, and ultimately, Americans.

We'll see.
"Winning" doesn't mean getting knifed in the back by some blue dog a couple months after the election. Over the years, Steve Farber and his 17th Street cabal have foisted numerous corporate Dems on us from Cheri Jahn and Sue Schafer in Wheat Ridge to Ken & John Salazar, Michael Bennet, John Hickenlooper and Mark Udall higher up on the ticket. Until the Colorado Democratic establishment regains the trust of the progressive base, don't expect party unity. Repeated betrayal works that way. If Joe Miklosi wants the support of the progressive base, then he needs to court us respectfully. "Shut up and get in line or else you'll make me loose" won't cut it anymore. If you want my vote, ask nicely and convince me that the candidate deserves it.
