Why does Gessler think "fraud exists" in Denver elections? His office is "not going to comment"

by: Jason Salzman

Wed Oct 19, 2011 at 06:28:16 AM MST

For weeks, I've been asking Secretary of State Scott Gessler's media people if Gessler was serious when he said, in a radio interview, that "fraud exists" in Denver elections, and when, on another occasion, Gessler implied that there's election fraud in Denver.

I've left lots of messages and gotten no response.

This surprised me, truly, because you'd think the Secretary of State would want to make it clear either way.

If he thinks there is really fraud, that's obviously a huge problem that every active, inactive, and dead voter should hear about.

If there's no fraud, then we should hear this, to put us at ease since Gessler previously said there was fraud.

So I was overjoyed Tuesday when I got Gessler's media spokesperson Rich Coolidge, instead of an answering machine, when I called his direct line in Gessler's press office.

But disappointment followed....

Jason Salzman :: Why does Gessler think "fraud exists" in Denver elections? His office is "not going to comment"
Jason: Hi Rich. It's Jason Salzman, a blogger in Denver. I'm very sorry to keep bothering you. I don't know if you got my messages about whether there's fraud in Denver elections?

Gessler's spokesperson: I got the one last week, and we're not going to comment to you.

Jason: Why?

Gessler's spokesperson: We just don't reach out to ColoradoPols bloggers.

Jason: I'm not a ColoradoPols blogger. I post there. You've talked to me in the past, and I thought I represent you fairly when you tell me a fact. And if I don't, you can ask me, and I'll put whatever you want to say in my blog.

Gessler's spokesperson: I appreciate that. And you can write whatever you're going to write, and we understand that. And we're good to go. We're not going to comment.

Jason: Isn't it a basic question of whether you think there's fraud in Denver elections? I mean, don't you think that's a question that you'd want to comment on?

Gessler's spokesperson: Jason, you're going to write what you want to write, and that's fine.

Jason: Last time we talked...

Gessler's spokesperson: You have your bent. You're going to post on ColoradoPols. We don't have anything to say. But thank you for your call. We are not going to comment.

Jason: What if I were just a citizen, or any person, worried about fraud?

Gessler's spokesperson: You're going to post it on ColoradoPols, and you are free to do that.

Jason: Well, I won't. I have a blog; it's called BigMedia.org, and I post on Huffington Post. If you don't want it on ColoradoPols, I won't put it on ColoradoPols. [I should have mentioned SquareState as well. Sorry about that.]

Gessler's spokesperson: You're going to do what you're going to do.  I don't read your blogs and your pieces. You know, go ahead and write it. And that's fine. We're not going to comment. Thanks for your call. I'm going to let you go now.

Jason: There's nothing I can do? Nothing at all?

Gessler's spokesperson: No.

Jason: There's no way we can negotiate this?

Gessler's spokesperson: No thank you.

Jason: Well okay, thank you very much.

Gessler's spokesperson: Thank you.

Jason: Have a good day.

Gessler's spokesperson: You too.

Jason: Bye.

Gessler's spokesperson: Bye.

Gessler's spokesman is correct that I write from a progressive perspective.

But I hope that anyone who follows my work knows that I try hard to be fair and accurate, especially when I interview someone. I do my best not to misquote anyone or present their views out of context. I will always update my blog posts with whatever my interviewees want me to add, if they don't like what I've written.

National stats from Bush Justice Dept:
I think Lawrence O'D had the statistics yesterday on MSNBC of 80 procecutions out of hundreds of millions of votes cast - something like .0000n%.

Scott Gessler IS A LIAR. Lather, rinse, repeat.

We should convene a grand jury
to investigate Gessler's allegations of voter fraud.  I mean that's a really serious claim, and if Gessler is withholding evidence of voter fraud, he needs to be subpoenaed and compelled under oath to divulge that evidence.

... So anyway, what's the penalty for lying under oath to a grand jury?

yep, that should be the headline

It doesn't fucking matter if you write from a progressive perspective
the fuckers need to answer the motherfucking question. They're engaging in partisan disenfranchisement and they fucking know it. They feel entitled to do it because they're crazy and they use these tactics because they get away with it that way.

They are worthless pieces of cowardly shit.

Thanks.

Voter Fraud
Of course there is voter fraud!  The only thing you need to vote out here is to prove that you live here.  Therefore, illegal immigrants can vote.  They aren't event citizens!

Show us proof
that illegal immigrants are voting in Colorado.

[ Parent ]
5000 non-citizens may have voted in 2010 elections
You want proof...

http://www.greeleygazette.com/...

Here I site an article stating there may be 5000 illegal immigrants voting.  The issue is that it is difficult to quantify because of the proof required to vote.  That is why it should be necessary to prove you are a citizen to vote.  If not, why have a country in the first place?

[ Parent ]
That's not "proof"!
(And the wacko thing you linked to is not an "article.")

That's just a re-telling of Gessler making the ridiculous claim. Where is Gessler's "proof"? How did Gessler arrive at these nutty assertions?

[ Parent ]
It's not proof
and even if it was, Gessler wants "written proof" of citizenship which, according to what I gather about the "study", would also be easy to fabricate, right?

And again, your point about risking deportation to vote is a mighty one.

[ Parent ]
Think it is funny...
I just think it is funny that you are scared of people proving they are a citizen to vote.  It is as if you want a non-citizens to vote.  It's as if you want to get rid of the united states, which is a country founded on immigrants.  (which are legal).

Do double posts help the hit count?

[ Parent ]
It just re-emphasizes the importance
of your question. It's an important question-- one you'll never get an answer to because they're lying.

[ Parent ]
That's usually the surest way
to make a dittohead shut up and slink away -- ask them to provide legitimate factual evidence backing up the bullshit they're parroting.

[ Parent ]
Ah good.. ad hominem to fight back...
Ad hominem is a common attack when the the opponent has no substance to debate with.  If you don't know, it is a personal attack or a label.  The label as a dittohead (which I had to look up) is a reference to a Rush Limbugh listener I think. I am not a dittohead, I just want people to prove that they are a citizen of this country before they vote!  What is wrong with that?

[ Parent ]
You can't provide evidence of non-citizens voting
because it's not happening. Gessler's a liar and a nut. Period, end of story.

[ Parent ]
Well, what's wrong with that
is that you should launch your citizenship voter investigation because on something factual, not racism.

[ Parent ]
NEW RULE
You use "ad hominem" in a comment and you're banned!

totally jk, y'all.

But seriously, no taxation without representation!

[ Parent ]
I don't know where dittoheads get off
claiming that "dittohead" is an insult. Rush calls them that all the time, and they never object. I don't recall Annette Funicello ever bitching at being called a Mouseketeer. Isn't it the same principle? I mean, at so many levels?

This is the only example of someone voter fraud
I've seen lately.  An elderly Republican in Aurora.

http://www.denverpost.com/news...

The idea of illegal immigrants voting is more than ridiculous.  Why would anyone risk deportation to vote illegally?  Like all the insane claims it is all about voter suppression and that's all.

Thank you for illuminating how
people are willing to believe some bullshit based on fear of a race-takeover or something.

[ Parent ]
"race-takeover"
Charges of racism require proof.  Such name calling is an easy way to avoid the argument.  A person that has entered a country illegally has broken a law of the country.  A country with open borders is not a country.

[ Parent ]
To benefit there agenda...
It's simple, if you were to move to France Illegally to improve your life, and there was a possibility to vote to improve your own circumstances with no chance of being deported, you would vote for your own agenda.  This is the type of situation that illegal immigrants face. The problem is that they nothing to lose.

It's common sense that illegal immigration causes financial hardship on those that have chosen to follow the law and immigrate legally.
