GW Bush Stumps for Education Reform In Denver With Hancock

by: Fong

Mon Oct 17, 2011 at 15:37:14 PM MST

Because if anyone has brilliant ideas about how to develop intelligent, law-abiding, and well-rounded citizens, it's George W. "fuck the law, I'm the decider" Bush.

Is there any question anymore about what it means when Hancock talks about Mayoral takeover of Denver Public School Board should this month's board election not turnout the way he wants it to? If there is a question, the answer is George W.  Bush coming to Denver to stump for education reform with Mayor Hancock.

This is Denver, where it is overwhelmingly Democratic. In a rare instance of accurate history, Democrats still hate the shit out of GWB. Why would Hancock and Boasberg let him come out just before election day? Are they really that stupid, or is it just arrogance.

Both.

The Denver Post has a little piece about this. Read it and weep over there.

Connect the dots, people. This takeover is real and the players have a real history of ruining everything in their path and converting it into profit for their cronies.

Mind boggling.

ditto that
Bush doesn't have, nor should he have, any credibility on schools or education.

His signature bill was based on the lies of his Secretary of Education. And he called the NEA "terrorist".

Why are Colorado Democrats afraid to act like Democrats or believe in Democratic principles?

Oh, it's bipartisanship!
Totally kidding.

so tired of that word.....

By their friends you will know them.

Don't want to read too much into that.
Dems are very divided on this issue. I have friends on both sides of the argument, and they are still, and will always be, my friends. Why? They are good people with good hearts. They are just uninformed, ignorant, or misguided on this issue, IMHO. In order to understand education, you need to have some experience as a teacher -- at any level -- college, high school, grade school, preschool, adult ed., etc. If and when you do, you understand that education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a lamp. Good teachers are not just people who know their subject matter. My husband is a brilliant scientist, but he would make a lousy teacher. He has no patience. He would be the first to admit it. Most men, and many women, no matter how successful they may be in business, are like him. Teaching is an art, as well as a science.

I have supported candidates who are right (left) on 90% of the issues that matter to me -- health care, protecting the environment, consumer protection, Social Security and Medicare, urban issues, GLBTQ issues, issues of color and race, reproductive choice, feminism, etc. Sometimes, they are wrong on an issue, IMHO. That doesn't make them a bad legislator, candidate, or leader. It just means I have to work ten times as hard to try to convince them to see what I see.

I've been an activist/protester for three decades. I started wearing out my shoes protesting for ERA (we still don't have it today) and the lemon-laws (Nader's pro-consumer standards). I've learned that if all I do is bitch and complain about the 10% our leaders do wrong, I lose all credibility. I have to give them credit for the 90% they do right (left) and when I do, they may be a little more open-minded the next time.

Capiche?

A noble sentiment, PM
But anyone whose words and actions promote the corporate raping of America's public schools needs to be called out on it, even if they are only acting out of negligence and ignorance -- no exceptions, whether based on party affiliation or otherwise.

Agreed.
Diplomatically is the preferred style, if possible.

Unless of course it is Mike Coffman or Tom Tancredo,
in which cases I beg leniency in judgment. ;-)

Aah! And how did I forget unions?
That actually is a huge one. If they are anti-union, I will give them crap, as close to their face as I can get. When Pat Lane gathered a group of community organizers together to help Ritter get re-elected (before he dropped out of the race) a bunch of us met with him to get to know him better. He was welcomed with that question first off, before even the hello (you may remember the firefighter union vote). I'm a big fan of Ritter for 50 other reasons (most of them environmental) but we did hold his feet to the fire on that one. Good memory.  :-)
