Mission Accomplished

( - promoted by Fong)

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

- Mitch McConnell Republican Senate Leader

Mission Accomplished for Republicans:
Forty-nine percent of registered voters said they would choose Romney over Obama if the election were held today, compared to 46 who would reelect Obama, the poll found. While that lead was small enough to be considered within the margin of error, the pair are still tied at 47 percent among all Americans.

The president's political weakness appears to be driven by Americans' dissatisfaction over the state of the economy. On Monday, veteran Democratic strategist James Carville warned the president's reelection could be "very rough" if job growth doesn't rebound. And to that end, dissatisfaction with Obama's handling of the economy and the federal budget deficit is at an all-time high in the ABC/Post poll.

Barack Obama has done this to himself: his vow to look forward, not back, has let Republicans off the hook for a multitude of bad policies and most of our Trillion$ of debt; his willingness to nogotiate with himself, then let Republicans drive the debate even further to the right, has left Americans feeling he has not upheld his quite clear campaign promises and his electoral mandate.

President Obama might be proud of disasters averted or incremental improvements, but Americans are in no mood, nor position, to reward such meager accomplishments; 2010 should have told him at least that.

As Mario always says, the election isn't being held today. But all this equals one thing, at least, for now:

His own fault
I agree completely that Obama put himself in this position.  Contrary to what many pundits wail about every day, if a substantial number of un- or under-employed Americans do not see real improvement in the job market, Obama is toast - I don't care who the Teabaggers put up against him or how crazy they are.

By choosing Wall Streeters who caused the original recession to "serve" as advisors instead of experts who saw what was going on or those who studied how the Depression was successfully ended, Obama let everybody know what he really cares about.

At this point, I can easily see him being a one-term President who threw historic opportunities aside in favor of his ego.

Amen.
Obama sucks. Fail. When Republicans take charge again, all I can say is that I'm happy I don't have kids but the same applies if he wins again.

Obama's Fault? Or America's?
So, if I may sum up this article:

"Obama sucks because he doesn't act like George W. Bush. I want my president to be a three year-old child who stamps his feet when he doesn't get his way. I prefer a chief executive who holds his breath until he passes out if he doesn't get that new Nintendo for Christmas. I want a left-wing right-winger."

I think that sums it up pretty well. You're obviously writing for a knee-jerk audience, so it would help you out if you wrote shorter articles and skip all the "rationalization" you attempt to smash in.

Given that the President of the United States of America has no powers to write economic policy himself, I do so find it delicious that everyone leaps to blame him for the work of an ineffective Congress (Congressmen aren't JUST for cock pics!). Unless the Constitution was changed at some point to make the President actually responsible for unemployment rates...I don't remember that amendment!

It's a pity that "news organizations" can't get their thick heads around that concept--not surprising (Americans are, after all, really quite stupid), just pitiful.

Huh?
Wow, holding the president accountable for showing no leadership capabilities is bad in your eyes.

Okay, I get it you're an Obama sycophant and Obama can do no wrong. I guess we should just say nice things about our great leader or shut up.

I'm just a stupid American expecting the leader of the Democratic party and our once great nation to actually lead and not get rolled by a bunch of right-wing a-holes.

Premise fail.
"Obama sucks because he doesn't act like George W. Bush."

Wrong, by about 180 degrees.  Obama sucks because he DOES act like George W. Bush. That's the criticism, not the baseless strawman that you invented and falsely attributed to Zappatero.

Fascinating
What has Obama held his breath on until the Teabaggers gave in?  Want a hint?  Nothing.  He hasn't even held his breath on his most cherished value: working together.  He's stomped around and chastised his base for not accepting the premise that more needed to be given to the Teabaggers in exchange for nothing, but we didn't hear Obama demanding from the opposition a little compromise.

The President has nearly unilateral power to put people in place around him of his own choosing.  He chose Wall St. over Main St.  For those of us who are working to strengthen Main St., that doesn't make sense.  Zappatero and others here have spent many a pixel directing well-deserved blame at ineffective Congress-people.  Oh, that includes ineffective Democrats as well as Teabaggers.

The President chose his economic policy.  He got the stimulus he wanted.  Now he has the results in return for his policy.  Wall St. has done quite well as a result of those economic policies taking effect.  Not coincidentally, it's still Main St. that is suffering.

Totally agree.
If Obama had simply kept his campaign promises: unemployment would be much lower, GDP growth would be averaging about 6% or so (a genuine recovery), tax revenues would be booming, the federal budget would be in better shape, the nation would be safer and more secure, health care would be affordable and available to everyone, we would have Net neutrality, Wall Street would be regulated, we would be building a new-energy economy that reduces our dependence on foreign oil, etc., etc., and the Democrats would still control both houses of Congress. And Obama would still be riding his 2008 juggernaut into a virtually uncontested second term. But instead, Obama threw that all away and stabbed us in the back more times than we can count.

... So, can anyone explain why the O-bot legions remain incapable of seeing any of this?

In the words of smarter men then I
"It's the Economy Stupid."

Obama did a little, but not enough. That is all that will matter come election time. He is pandering to assholes who will never vote for him and pissing off the people who have been working for the causes he supposedly supports for our entire lives.

I could never vote and will never vote for a Palin or a Huckabee etc. over Obama, but why do we always have to choose between shit candidates who never do what they say they are going to do?

I can't tolerate supporting a president who won't
make serious moves towards reducing the psychotic military budget. This country is so far off kilter that conversations about it are out of the question for many reasons. I know it sounds impish to say it like that but since nobody is talking about it, it's difficult for me to have a conversation about America's future prosperity when we're all in this deep denial. If Barack can't man up about basic issues, I don't know how I'm going to get inspired again.

You were inspired in the first place?
You've got my ass beat.
