Many young 'uns around might not know this but there was a time when one of the world's favorite brands was made right here in Colorado:
The facility in Fountain, Colorado, made APPLE PowerBooks and desktop computers for Canada and the U.S and employed about 1,100.
Yeah, I know, it's amazing to think of a large U.S. based, high-profit company putting so many to work. It seems impossible now and unfortunately the life of that factory was ended shortly thereafter.
Now Apple subcontracts manufacturing far away from Fountain, Colorado: Taiwanese-based manufacturing giant Foxconn [...] is notorious for the poor conditions at its factories and the wave of suicides at its plants.
What are the conditions these slackers can't handle? And couldn't Apple make a profit right here in the good ol' USA by importing that work? |
| Zappatero :: When Apple Computers were made in Colorado |
- Workers Are Being Asked To Work 80-100 Hours Of Overtime
- Workers Are Being Forced To Sign 'No-Suicide' Pacts
- Employees Regularly Are Forced To Stand For 14 Hours A Day
- Employees Are Crammed Together In Dormitories With Squalid Living Conditions
I'm getting to the age where I'm kinda looking forward to Social Security. That is, if Alan Simpson and Michael Bennet and Claire McCaskill and John Boehner and Paul Ryan don't think it would be too extravagant.
But I bet there's someone out here who would love a job like that, and maybe the Free-Market could work for the benefit of someone besides the CEO, CFO, and COO of Apple Computers - someone who lives a nice quiet life right here in Middle Class, Colorado. |
