Jared Polis wins intellectual duel with Unarmed Republican

We've all heard of "low information voters" this year, especially after the Republican Party magically cloned itself into a Tea Party that helped win them a majority in the House. The Tea Party seems to have emboldened a new thing called the Low Information Legislator who, good for comedians and bad for democracy, are going to dominate nightly news, The Daily Show, Colbert, Rachel, and late night talk shows everywhere for the duration of this next Congress.

Here, our very own Jared Polis tries to enforce the basics of thought and logic on Republican Steven King, to no avail.....

First terrorist babies, now trash can babies. Of course, legislation that would help babies grow up to become productive adults is almost never introduced by Republicans.

Google search: trash, abandoned, baby = 1.6 Million hits, some in Philippines.

Google search: stupid Republican = 5.3 Million hits.

Let the Games of the 112th Congress of the United States of America begin!

"When in doubt, mention throwing the baby out."
It's an old Egyptian adage that has lost much of its usage since the decline of that empire. It started with "when in doubt, float the baby out" but since the drying of the Egyptian delta during this ice age, changes were needed. I

Do or do not, there is no try.

Not that I agree with King's overall argument,
but it seems to me he's making a factually valid (if pedantic) point here and Polis is the one who isn't following the simple logic of it.

Rather ironic, really
The right-wing Republican is the one underscoring the fact that there are many people in this country who don't have access to health care, and the "Democrat" is the one arguing otherwise. It's extremely likely, of course, that none of Jared's wealthy friends are without health care -- perhaps that's what he's thinking of. And by the way, congratulations to them on Jared's successful efforts to extend and expand the Obama/Bush tax cuts for tycoons.

At the 40-second mark:
"Every human being in this country has access to health care."
--Jared Polis

No, Jared, they don't.

Please clarify
who you're calling a dipshit.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
What would the writers at SNL do without someone like Steve King?

Hire Janeane Garafalo
No wait, that was about the lowest point in the show.

Yeah, is this really a win?
I think everyone just lost.

yes, unfortunately, but
we're going to have to fight them everywhere in every committee on every dais at every hearing. And I'm much happier with Jared on the Rules Committee and on our side that this guy who's claiming that: because some babies are put in trash cans by their terrified, insurance-less, socailly castigated mothers that the ICC should not apply to multi-billion dollar companies who have near-monopolies in each state where they do business.

Republicans win by the scorched earth tactics. We (might) win by having someone with some brains in DC.

How dare you doubt our mendacity?

Interstate Commerce
Many federal laws use the interstate commerce clause even though there are individuals who are totally isolated from the affected activity.

Of course
King's overall argument was absurd. That's what makes it so pathetic that Polis was able to back himself into the wrong side of a pedantic little side-debate over the one premise in King's ridiculous argument that actually held water. There are indeed babies born in this country who are thrown into dumpsters and never receive one bit of health care in their tragically short lives. Nor did the babies' mothers, in many cases, have access to health care for themselves or prenatal care for the babies. That's why it's so ironic that King was inadvertently invoking a key argument FOR universal health care, and Polis was invoking the bogus right-wing/corporatist argument that we already have universal health care because emergency rooms are required to "treat" uninsured people (stabilize them and push them back out the door).
