Sen Hatch & FOX News' Van Susteren LIE about UI extensions

by: Denver Unemployment Examiner

( - promoted by Fong)

There is a HUGE mis-perception about what the tax cut compromise and it's 13 month U.I. extension actually provided (whihc was nothing for about half of the unemployed.)  Members of Congress and the media everywhere are incorrectly reporting that this bill ADDED 13 monts of U.I. benefits.  It is a complete falsehood.'

Senator Hatch is one of several members of Congress who either 'didn't know the facts' about the bill (that they voted against) or are outright LYING to the public.  This is happening everywhere, locally, nationally.

There is further evidence of this w/ HR6556.  A huge thank you to Rep's Lee & Scott!

We (99ers) are asking CNN & MSNBC to do a poll asking how many American believe (incorrectly) that the tax cut compromise added additional EUC benefits to the long term unemployed. I'm willing to bet that there is significant number of Americans that DON'T know the truth - and would probably not be happy that the tax cuts for the top 2% were extended without really helping the long-term (longest) term unemployed - a growing population of middle class professionals.

They Know, They Just Dislike the Idea
The meme that the unemployed are at fault for their situation is easier for many to grasp.  To admit that our vaunted economy has failed the people is bitter, so the Republican politicians further their careers on the backs of those thrown away by our rich-loving culture.  Sad.  Perhaps one day our people will come together once again and progress will be made.  Not in the immediate, however.

I don't think they do know
I was told by a local non-profit that people were not going to be cut off, so I do think that many people are misinformed. Some young activists are naive, and can't believe that the government would really end people's only source of income right before the holidays.

So, thanks for the information.

Then, Be Sure We Make Them Know
The media is not our friend in this. Stating that those unemployed for 99 weeks won't get more help is not going go sell advertising and will put such information behind the obituaries.

The media has been our enemy
I have been responding to stories posted online, aired on local newscastsa ,etc for months...the local media in particular has been absolutely irresponsible when reporting on the economic conditions and the unemployment compensation extension.
9News is the worst.  They recently posted an article that was totally incorrect (reporting taht 25,000 people in the state are collecting U.I. - when, in fact there are 150,000 U.I. claimants).  I aksed the reporter where he got his information and the idiot told me 'from both Democratic and Republican representatives in Washington - Coffmn and DeGette.
9News has been reporting this kind of mis-leading crap for months ("19% of companies are planning to hire in the nes year" and therefore made the conclusion that the economy is 'better'.  WHAT? Doesn't that mean that 81% of companies are NOT hiring.  Glass half full - or complete crap? -
Regarding the 25,000 claimants in CO, I went tothe CDLE and asked them to help educate 9News...which the CDLE did (thank you).  Instead of correcting the facts contained in their online story they posted another one that had nothing but 'attitude' with SOME of the facts included...
Can't stand stand them.  I sent a nasy email to everyone who has an emial address at 9News asking them, with all due respect, what purpose does it serve to tell half-truths and misleading reports about the state's economy and joblessnes?  I reminded them that they are not reporting about people's lives - not their own lives.

They are pathetic and every once in ahwile they make a half assed attempt to 'touch on the truth' but immediately return to their deceptive, misleading reports.  I've said - and written - before that if I didn't know better, I'd think they were on the payrolls of politicians.

This - and the lies coming out of the mouths of politicans is the very reason that some non-p[rofit group mistakenly believe that U.I. was extended for everybody.

Needless to say, they don't like me very well. I don't like them very well.  The battle continues.
